fawndallas

Right now, I am only CPE registered. I am going to attend the ones in my area in Sept. I really have no interest in going to Houston (sorry Sitasmom) unless there is a puppy involved. I was just looking at other trials this fall. Flight wise, this was the cheapest for me, until I started working in Cirberus's flight. For all of them, she has to go as cargo (no fun) and her ticket is more than mine.

A train ride might be fun. I have never been on a train, so it would be new to both of us.

@fawndallas - If you end up coming through the Phnx area (not sure of the route your taking), you are more than welcome to crash at my place for some rest. Wife and i would be more than happy to make up the guest room for you, plus we have an indoor training area with some kennels set up for the dogs or if you prefer, the guest room is def large enough for you and your dog in/out of a crate.  Would still be about a 3 hour drive from my place to Tuscan but you could be well rested for the event :)

Train not an option. Takes too long; no internet, so I would have to take more time off from work.

So, no secret tricks of the travel, huh? Driving seems to be the best option. I have a friend who's daughter is in Phoenix for an extended contract. She says she might be willing to go. This can break up the drive and allow me to work (gotta love travel technology).

Cutaway, thanks for the offer. I might take you up on it. Do you do agility? Maybe we can talk CLC into popping in from NM.

I drive. If you fly you need to then rent a car as well. To much of a pain. The furthest I have travelled is 14 hours.

We have flown with my husbands service dog. Each airline is different but most allow a service dog if you need the assistance of the dog during the flight, example a medical alert dog. Therapy dogs are not the same as service dogs and do not get to fly in the cabin.

@fawndallas - I tried agility once but i am just to fat and I cant keep up with those darn Border Collies Shades Smile. I go to a few agility & rally events when they are around. I am just a dog nerd and think its fantastic that there are people out there that do things with their dogs and I enjoy watching them as a team.

I am heading out for a shorter road trip (8 - 10 hour drive) this weekend to go train with some good fun people. A friend/club member has a big ole E350 Cargo van and we generally pack that thing up with a few of us, then some dogs (4 this trip), crates, training gear and road munchies and just head out. I am still amazed at what us dog people can tolerate sometimes LOL

I really hope you decide to make the trip, this December

Anecdotally traveling from the south eastern USA to the west, should cause no problems with LEO's along the way, however, traveling from southwest (namely California) to the southeast has been known to cause some undue attention from LEO's once you get past Nevada and Arizona.  Basically, driving in the south with a California license plate is asking for trouble and will net ticket after ticket, as you past through the various local jurisdictions.  It certainly doesn't happen every time, but having heard such stories from 3 unrelated people, whom don't know each other, signals to me there is a problem.

Back on topic, I looked into taking Amtrack, but they have closed many stops over the years and sometimes the drop off is many hours away from the trial location by car or even in a neighboring state.  There is also small charter flights, but its very expensive.  The only way to save some doing this is to be an add-on to an existing booking, meaning, you are kind of like a stand-by, traveling with a group of people who happen to be going the same way.
