It sounds very much like the type of legislation which was passed in Germany years ago - I don't know if it has been modified, but there were documented cases where people walking dogs in public had them forcibly taken away from them by police: there was no appeal, and they never saw their dogs again. Breeds were similar, with the addition of the Dogo Argentino and Tosa Inu .......

I think they need to focus MORE ON THE SCUM that is doing this crap to our dogs, than the dogs. Gangmembers, drug dealers and just all around scumbag people. When will they realize IT IS THE PEOPLE, Not the DOGS.

After it is illegal to have pitbulls, ACTUALLY, Staffordshire Terriers", Do people not think than it will be Rottweilers, Dobermans and Eventually Shepherds!

EVERY Dog Owner, and Lover needs to get togeather to stop the BAN on Pitbulls,(I have known some beautiful-friendly ones).People think if it don't affect us, at the moment, WHY BOTHER?

I say BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THEY WILL BE KNOCKING AT YOUR DOG!

Psycht,

Thats something I never would have guessed about Montana and individual rights if citizens.    Glad your on it !!

I ask myself all the time, who are these people who come up with this crap.   And how do they get support for such lame ideas.

I almost moved to Montana 20 years ago.   Maybe its better just to visit such places and not stay in one place too long.

Livingston was pretty but seemed lifeless.

How could the state enforce a law like this in all the wide open country anyway?

Oh well, more coffee.

Morning.

I don't understand why Staffordshire bull terriers (NOT American Staffordshire B.T.) ..the little english nanny dogs...are always on a pitbull list.  I've never seen an offensive one...has a nanny dog bitten anyone in recent years?  I'm not for the pitbull banning either, but I do understand as irresponsible owners cause scary problems for others.  Veronica

Ridiculous... If Jack Russell Terrier's were bigger... they'd be on the list too...   I did rescue for many years for JRT's and and had more than 100 of them that had poor, ignorant, uneducated owners that had no business raising a dog (and then dumping it on the rescue when they couldnt control it any longer).

JUST LIKE WITH ANY OTHER FRICKING BREED OF DOG.... THEY ALL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO ATTACK, BECOME AGGRESSIVE, BECOME MEAN.... POTENTIAL.... damn... "I" EVEN HAVE THAT POTENTIAL!!!!

I have NEVER met a mean or aggressive pitbull.  But then, the people I know who have them are responsible dog owners.    Should we confiscate and euthanize all Thoroughbred horses too?  Since they are the most hot blooded and most likely to kick, bite, rear and buck?

GOD THIS PISSES ME OFF!!!

I hope this link works....this women had her animals seized, & the spca euthanized her horse right on her front lawn, near here in Scranton, Pa. Please read this story.....it terrifies me that this can happen, right here in Pa. She wasn't breaking any laws, her animals weren't abused.....the officer didn't like the way they looked, & didn't bother to get the history. This is the only area of law where your property can be seized & destroyed before any hearing is held, or any kind of legal injunction can be arrainged. In other words, you have no right to your own property if some animal control officer or spca person says they don't like the way you, your animals, or your property looks---& you have no right to even tell your side of the story! jh

"As this is happening my wonderul dog grabbed the pitbull before he had time to lock his jaws - I got away with 5 tiny scars on my hand."

Uh, your spreading wives tails. No dog can lock it's jaw. Pits were bred to fight other pits, not people. Dogs showing human aggression were culled, so as a breed they should be less likely to go after a person than most breeds.

No breed should be banned, it's the retarded owners that need to be banned from owning animals period!
