"4. keeps Americans coming back with cash" These rules were in place long before Schutzhund became popular in America. And Americans are not the only people outside of the geographical bounderies of Germany that are into the sport and breeding these magnificent animals. My understanding is only qualified dogs that are able to reproduce by "natural" means should be bred. Thus ensuring a certain integrity within those dogs born. If you start sending frozen sperm, whose to say females would get pregnant that would not do so naturally. Maybe some males would produce ofspring artificially, that would not stand up naturally. Everything is not a conspiracy against Americans, who are the Johnny come latly to this arena.

I echo concerns about shipping the female for live cover by a stud dog--airtravel, a strange place and strange people handling her, a strange dog trying to jump her. Many females would do well, but many also might not catch just because of the stress. So the bitch owner has taken the trouble and risk to ship the dog and she comes up empty. There is also a certain risk when airshipping long distances. Not to mention increasing border clearance procedures, documentation and security measures at airports. Also, the emerging disease list contributing to sterility, abortion, small litters and fading puppies (Herpes, Mycoplasma, Brucellosis, Chlamydia and resistant strains of Staph and Strep) is causing stud owners to require many more tests from incoming females. I think both of these factors will make using AI from either fresh chilled or frozen semen a much more attractive option for owners of females who want to breed to top dogs either in NA or in Germany. It may not be the ideal solution, but given the changing world of dog breeding, some may soon feel it is the only solution to keep some variety in the regional gene pool (ie. not using the top local stud/s that everyone is going to because it is most convenient and presents least risk to the bitch).
