Reggae,

I know what you mean...

My female was x-rayed by two different vets that said she looked OFA Good,

and I sent them in twice, from the 2 different vets, 2 different opinions, one from a
vet of 35 years, and one from a vet of 10 years experience, and of course, myself, (the amatuer!)

I actually thought they looked good.

crapshoot is a.........Fair.....no wait......Good......oh no wait.....Excellent description of OFA determination!!!!

B.Andersen,

I also agree with you, I meant to include you also,

but yet after all that is said & done, I still do OFA's

My girl that didn't get certified is getting Penn- hip done,

I'm curious to see what percentage she will be in.

I do it also. I wish we just had one Vet to look at all maybe one to just look at GSD hips. I just tell people that they can view the xray if they like.  I should just re do my dog and resubmit  but OFA fair is still a normal hip.

gsdlvr2,

Yes, I asked my vet if he made copies and he said yes, he always does as part of their permanent record.  I'm allowed to "borrow" them at any time by checking them out to show anyone I want.  I told him I wanted to show her breeder.  So, all I have to do is go back in and ask to take them out.  I'll try to do that this week and post them on here.

Will a scanner pick up the image?  (Sorry...never done this before.)  I have a hard enough time posting an actual pic.  lol

I understand from all of your posts that there is a very good chance that OFA will read differently from what my vet read.  I'm hoping he is dead on though...

So, if OFA reads different, I can resubmit them? If so, is this just on the prelims or on the offical readings also at 2 yrs?

Thank you for your help.

I tape the xrays to a large sliding glass door and take pictures of them with my digital camera using several different settings. From what I understand some imaging companies can scan them and put them on a disc for you for about 10 to 20 bucks.

you can also take your digital camera to the vets office, put the x-rays on the viewer and take pictures that way. no flash. I think that is the easiest way to do it. I have never scanned them but I know others on here have.

I am convinced it is the first vet to read them opinion on your grade. Some times it is right on other times I wonder. It only took 3 weeks for my last one.

What is the earliest you would do prelims on hips?

I know OFA says you can do them at 4 months, I personally wait until around 9-10 months old.

As for pictures, I just take my camera with me as posted above.

Well, I went to pick mine up and I can tell you, you CANNOT scan an xray (duh!) and have it show up.  lol   (well, I had to try.)

Anyway, I'll have to take it home tonight and do the picture thing.  Then, I'll have to take it to Rite Aid tomorrow and download, then scan onto my computer.   phew.... a lot of work but, I want your opinions.

phgsd,

They really look almost if not identical to yours...even with the one on the right (which I think would actually be the left hip) fitting just a tad looser in the socket than the other side.  I'm not kidding if I could copy this darned thing, I would.  I'll be sure to try to get a copy on here by tomorrow.
