We live in a country where we have the freedom to criticize our politicians, including our president.  Perhaps some of us did not like Obama or McCain for president!   Why do people who aren't American citizens get on this forum and debate our politics?

Steve1,  in your previous post, you talk about the majority of Americans electing our president.  Let me educate you on our presidential elections.  We have what is called an electoral college and it is possible for a presidential candidate to win the popular election, but not win the presidency.  This is not what happened in the last election, but I wanted to let you know that it is possible.  In fact, it has happened!  Read over the following link:  http://www.enotes.com/topics/electoral .

Why do people who aren't American citizens get on this forum and debate our politics?

Probably for the same reason a lot of Americans feel it is their right to send troops into any country they don't agree with, bomb people they don't like, tell it's own citizens what countries they can visit and which ones they can't, or why they feel the right to tell each other who can own guns, who can have abortions, whom you can marry, how you need to raise your kids or what you should be watching on TV and every other sort of thing they can think of.

You are not the only ones who can criticize the leader or politicians of there country, It is the same in the UK no difference at all.
You say why should someone who is not a USA citizen get on this forum and debate our politics.
Well gg turner i started the thread and it was not to start any debate the way you guys have done it was just to say a good job done by your President,
But a good many of you really dislike the Guy, so that is why i put the post in above, now i will not expect to many answers to the questions i ask that is the norm on here with some , to be perfectly honest there are not many on here who will truly come out and say it as they mean it. Not many will put there heads on the chopping block fear of it being cut off and again you fail to realize one important aspect.
What goes on in the USA regarding who takes the HOT SEAT and the way your country is run reflects on a good part of the world certainly the UK it does, so why should i not show interest and talk about it.
That is what i said about looking after your own ends only and to hell with the rest of us.
I do not think that way fortunately i guess many more do not,  but a lot do going by the posts on here in other words 'I am alright Jack', you and the rest can take a hike, that does not bode well for an improved world.

Turn the question around.  Ask yourself why people in the US discuss and opine about what happens elsewhere in the world politically, for example in the Middle East?  That's your answer, because they believe what happens politically in other countries around the world will eventually affect their own lives, one way or another, and therefore have an opinion as to what's going on, and thankfully, feel free to express their opinon.  It especially makes a lot of sense on this forum, because this is an international forum, not even based in the US !  We live in a global community, have a global economy, etc., it's a very small world.

You are right, Steve1, that the leaders of countries have an impact around the world.  I don't dispute that and I am well aware of the freedoms in the UK.  But, you have decided to defend the president of the US and criticize those of us who are Americans if we don't like him.  All I was saying is that we have our reasons and our right to like/dislike our president.   We know how our politics work and don't need people outside of our country to point out how/why someone was elected into office.  I don't get on this forum and talk about the prime minister or the royal family and the politics surrounding them---I'm not British and it's not my business to criticize the British people for how they choose to run their country.

Zdog--the average American does not make the decision to bomb another country or send in troops.  No system of government is perfect and never will be.  Our elected leaders make those decisions and we don't always agree.   At least we can vote them out of office when they make choices we don't like.  Our country does not tell you who you can/should marry; how to raise your kids; what to watch on TV; whether or not to have an abortion.  Gun laws are in place, but the law abiding citizen should not have a problem getting a permit to own a gun (this is our Constitutional right).

I completely disagree.  As a matter of fact  I think the perspective of those who do not live in our country is extremely important and I welcome their opinions, good and bad.   If you choose not to speak about the leadership or politics of other countries, that's certainly your prerogative, but personally I hope people always feel  encouraged to speak their mind regardless of whether they live here or abroad.

I have noticed some do not like being criticized, Well look back on various threads and see who is the most criticized person on this Forum, It is me without any doubt, I even get some of the Guys on here emailing each other about me but it does not bother me at all it is quite funny really.
Why should i be bothered, I say it as i think it and it is not only on this Forum i do the same in real life. Only today i wrote a letter to the Police I got a Speeding ticket in March, Fair enough i paid the 50 euro fine through my bank within a week of getting the demand for it, I live 10 miles outside the city and was not going in special to pay it sooner,
However i get another bill saying it was not paid, i go to the bank get a print out of the payment and i take it to the local police station, Okay you have paid all is in order thats the end of it,
It does not end there, two days ago i get a bill from there office in Hasselt for 80 euro 30 euro more, they say it is still not paid.
So today i send them off a copy of the Bank statement and a stiff letter, telling them exactly what i think of there administration, and that is if they do not accept the Bank statement proof they can go and fly a kite those words.
I said do what you want i will not pay a second time regardless of what happens, and i mean every word no more will be paid and no more proof will be given them I really do not care at all what they do about it they will never get any more money for that ticket.
So it is nothing new i have lived my life the same way I know it rubs some up the wrong way but they are too sensitive It is forgot by me as soon as it ends, i never hold a grudge against anyone on this forum at any time, for me it is a forum nothing else no one will ever meet and become buddies, Plus i miss training a Dog i need to get back and get motivated again but a month to go yet and i guess i am getting a bit grouchy
Steve1

If i has spoken ill of your President i still would have got it in the neck so whatever is said it is wrong according to you, and it seems NO one outside the USA must voice there thoughts about your country, That my friend is arrogant and foolish, The USA needs other countries like the UK, and the UK need countries like the USA we have fought together a long time.

steve no one said what you wrote was wrong...i simply along with few others disagreed...

its like having a gorgeous man promise you the world, tell you everything you want to hear and than when you are 'sold' and in his arms he pulls down his pants and there is a 2 inch dick....regardless of promises and beautiful life there is disappointment within the performance....so once again...no one disagreed with your opinion...more people supported you and agreed including me that is was a good speech...
