Thanks for the tips/places. I'm going to have to order. I live in the richest county, (not me), on the Eastern Shore and when I go to these nurseries I can't/won't comprehend paying these prices. So I need to find a better way! How does anyone control "stink bugs"? And does anyone out there have an overpopulation of ladybugs, some that bite? The different/multicolored ones bite.

Also, what's a safe way to kill mosquito's? I live on a farm a mile off the main road so the county won't spray back this far and with the dogs I have to be careful with the sprays.

Hmm....never heard of a multi colored Ladybug. I am pretty sure the only color a "Ladybug" comes in is red / reddish-orange with different numbers of black spots. We love ladybugs they are considered a good bug to have around.

I read an article that said you can put Apple Cider vinegar in standing water (solution ratio of at least 15% vinegar to 85% water) and it will kill the larvae. Citronella also helps deter adult mosquitoes.

Hope that Helps.

Can't stand the smell of Citronella..... have the noise of a bloodhound. And the ladybugs, over here I think they're from an X-File experiment gone bad. But they do bite and hundreds are in the house up in the corners hanging out.

The mosquito's..... that's why I'm building some bat houses. But some say just building them doesn't mean they'll use them and some say it will take a year before they use them. Time will tell.

If you build it, they will come!  LOL

The thing about mosquitos is there is no way to get rid of them, (so I wish people would stop poisoning the world trying! ...a personal rant of mine....)

Best thing to do is keep all areas clear of standing water. Try using Avon Skin So Soft as a deterrent. And don't wear dark colored clothing at dusk. My brother has one of those mosquito traps that use CO2 to mimic human breath. I should ask him he thinks it is worth it the $$$.   A Frontgate item.

Those Ladybugs are part of the Japanese invasion. i don't think they bite but their wings in your face feels like it. Vacuum them up, they leave a scent behind that tell's next year bugs where to go....! I also heard they are more attracted to light colored homes.... but who knows!

About 10 years ago we had a major invasion of those" wanna be" lady bugs. We had them everywhere, I remember calling my husband at work and telling  him we were moving back to the city ASAP......lol....: )

They crawled on the house siding, window panes, inside the house...EVERYWHERE....and they BITE....It was like a horror movie and there where thousands of these nasty bugs....They had a very distinct  peanut butter smell...I too have a nose like a blood hound...lol...: )

Has anyone ever seen a shiny Gold colored Lady Bug ? I see one of these every so many years. Next time I'll catch it and post a picture.

Edit: I found 1 of 2 pictures online of the lady bug. Has anyone seen these ?

We've got those asian beetles (not true lady bugs) by the millions here too.
I heard they were brought over to kill soybean aphids.  Stinky things, I've already found 3 in my house this spring(?)
We are in the midst of a blizzard right now, getting dumped on again.
The geese and swans will be sorry they came back so soon.
