Your decoy ( husband) is doing just fine. Actually he is perfect for civil training.he is instinctively doing what many decoys have hard time to do. If you have experienced decoys they get the dog going by agitation which the dog will not see done by real bad guy. That type of agitation decoy work then turns her to not being "civil" and the dog train that way would not protect in real situation. If you want the dog to protect for real then you have to keep this in mind - as it seems you do. Always turn the dog on by command first before the dog sees the decoy or before the decoy starts he action. That way you are teaching the dog to target on command the man and not because someone is jumping in front of her. Now I am talking about real protection work .If you want to do sport then the approach is slightly different. Always train the dog for what ever you will use it. If protection then train for protection . If sport then train for sport. Train as you fight and fight as you train. You can do both but then I would suggest that you do it in 2 different venues.
