Very much hope for a quick and successful recovery for your mother, Travels.

Thank you Carlin, I appreciate that. They did get her out of bed and on her feet, but they can't get her to eat anything.

Overall, she's not coming back from the surgery as they were expecting. Pneumonia seems to be setting in, kidney function is not where it should be, urinary tract infection, inability to keep food in her stomach and not perceiving what's going on, who's there and that she even had surgery, on top of unmanageable pain. :(

Hello travels ,

I'm glad mom has recovered well from the surgery itself, but unfortunately there are those secondary complications that arise afterward. The change in her orientation/ mentation is common after anesthesia especially in the elderly. I have heard that countless times from patients families, that their mothers and fathers have not been "themselves" since receiving hip and knee replacement surgeries. And yes unfortunately pneumonia is a complication too ~ Make sure they are getting her up and make DARN sure they turn her while in bed frequently, every two hours is optimal because bedsores can develop in 24 hours and once they do it's a downhill battle to get them under control~ check moms skin when you visit especially the bony prominences and her bottom, don't trust that the nurses will do it because their patient load is too heavy and things get overlooked ~ hoping the best.

Hugs ~

Thank you Ruger, I'm already aware of all of that, unfortunately. I can't visit, I'm still in Florida, trying to figure out the logistics of getting home asap. My oldest sister is a nurse, so she's on top of everything as far as her physical care. On top of everything else, my father can't be left alone and all of the troops are rallying. I have three siblings, my daughters, three nephews an two nieces all there to help, not to mention in-laws, so they've got it covered for now. When I get there'I'll stay and look after Dad, but I'm not sure when I can get there, hopefully by mid week. I was planning on flying but there's Drake and his health issues, not sure yet how I'm going to work it all out, mostly because I don't know how long I'll be there. None of it is good, just none of it.

Oh, one more complication, my parents'11 year old, three-legged Yorkie ha surgery on his only back leg two weeks ago and still needs care. As a matter of fact, my mother fell when she bent over to pick him up, that's how she ended up breaking her hip :(

Finally some positive news this morning! She's awake, eating, bp is good, glucose levels good, she's communicating and feeling much better. I've been holding in so many emotions and almost collapsed from relief, had my first good cry. I realize she's not out of the woods just yet, but she's at least putting one foot on the road to recovery, meaning she still has it in her to fight. What a beautiful morning it is, indeed! A first :) since this all began!
