While we are on the subject...and please don't flame me because my mind is directed more at AKC here so I'm going a little off topic...but I have not noticed there being many sable conformation dogs. I don't think I've outright looked for them, but I haven't noticed either. Pretty much all I've seen are the black/tan. I've seen a couple blacks but not many. So can we touch on this a little bit if no one minds? I thought it was very interesting to read that the bicolors were pretty much bred out of the show lines.

Hiya I have been researching my 3 GSD pedigrees in particular and I have found a few all black Siegers/Siegerins plus some V dogs & VA dogs which my research has not proven ord diproved as yet. I do not know if you are only looking in recent years but these are way back in the halls of antiquity. Austrian & 2 x German Sieger ROLAND V STARKENBURK German Sieger BEOWULF V NAHEGAU German Siegerin GRETTEL V UCKERMARK V Bendix v Riedekenburg Born 1913 V Bianka v Riedekenburg Born 1913 V Asta vd Neuen Pforte Born 1930 V Damm v Sandhugel Born 1931 V Elfe v Westfalenruh Born 1939 V Cello vd Barnerger Hohe Born 1947 V Krafta v Zollgrenzschutz-Haus Born 1952 VA Tunte vd Secretainerie Born 1930 VA Trick v Schlossfelsen Born 1936 (If anyone can cofirm that these dogs did actually go V & VA, I would appreciate this info. Thanks Marilyn

Stephanie the same goes for the German Show ring there are no bi-colors in recent years and the only sable that has had great success recently has been VA Timo vom Berrekasten. It seems that the color preference is at least one thing that the German and AKC show ring still have in common. Marilyn I can't help you with the confirmation of your research but I did want to compliment you on it. I think its a lot of fun to see where your dog has come from when you check out the photos of their ancestors.
