Thank you Louise -for the additional info -- Oh, HOW I HATE THESE SHOTS -- AND what they can do to the puppies !!! Her ear problem got better after the 5 in one -- just in time to get another shot !! Thankfully, it didn't impact how they "went up" -- They are good and strong now -- but PINK !!! My vet makes up a solution using silvadine (?) and someething else - that is really good too -- Hopefully, we can get everything cleared up soon. I found a photo of "elphi" is it -- doing herding !! A dog you bred ? how elegant she is !! Congrats !! -- and you have or used to have Am. Bred dogs ? - see there are some Am Dogs that I DO like !! My very first bitch that we bred has Reno pretty up close - and I saw him at the 83 or 84 National in Philadelphia taking his last trot around that huge arena - and he must have been 13 and could still move !!! What a dog that was !!

I have a three year old female that has had staff pyoderma a couple of times. It is extremely aggressive and results in large areas of rotten meat smelling open weeping sores on her flanks, thights and around the upper neck shoulder area. I have had it treated effectively with both clavamox (most effective) and erythromycin. It has to be treated for a matter of weeks however. After I discovered how she gets it, she never got it again. Here is the scenario. She goes into season and smells bad and loses coat leaving a greasy dull thin coat. I give her a bath to make her smell and look better. The heat cycle changes the pH in the dog's system leaving the dog more susceptible to bacterial infection. The bath removes natural skin protectants and adds moisture promoting bacterial invasion. Bingo staff gets in and blows up. I no longer give her a bath when she's coming into or in season. No more problems.
