the Ol'Line Rebel

by the Ol'Line Rebel on 20 March 2006 - 19:03

60 lbs is fantastic. Just above 50 lbs isn't bad. I think this is 1 of the problems with all Shepherds (male too) - they're too heavy and huge. These dogs should be lithe, supple, graceful HERDING dogs at heart. Seems to me the Euro type is overridden w/Mastiff-type builds, whereas GS SHOULD be more like Belgians. They weren't meant to be draft 0R pure "guard" dogs, and shouldn't be more than 90 lbs, any of them. IOW, I'd just as well start seeing more so-called "small" Shepherds than those built like Rottweilers as if to respond to their competition police work. I'm put off when people (of all kinds) have seen my girls past and present and say "she's kind of small, isn't she?" At 60-65 lbs? No way!
