Hi Keith Ah --- But what do you feed?

by oso on 08 December 2004 - 03:12

koanes - any reason for that way round? I do the reverse thinking that kibble takes longer to digest so would be better at night?

Peter?

If I am working my dogs, they skip a meal, usually in the p.m. and then I work them in the a.m. beginning with tracking. I generally feed them twice a day and their primary food is kibble unless something homemade is mixed in. The morning meal is very regular timewise (unless they are being worked). They get fed in the a.m. after having been let out and doing their duty (and this is very important to ensure that they do eat their breakfast). They enjoy the morning meal. I then take them for their morning walk about an half hour later. They are off leash and are allowed to do what dogs do, and in our case, it is interacting with me with their toy. I leave the evening meal not tied to time. Sometimes I might even feed them 3X a day (all small meals for which I know they show alot of food drive for). I just try to keep them in suspense about when and at what time I am going to feed. When I have to have someone else care for them, they are fed on a very regular schedule, a.m. and p.m. They eat fine when in care and only get their kibble. I do not crate them for rest before or after a meal. They are always at my side and tell me if they want animation or not. Right now, she is lying on her couch watching CSPAN and he has opted to steal her bed in the bedroom in front of my bed. Sunny
