Tea tree, Lavender Lemongrass, Citronella, Cedarwood and Thyme essential oils are all repellents although not 100% effective.
Lavender seems to work well on its own and put 5/6 drops in a glass of water and soak your brush for a few Min's then brush away lol
I put 2 drops in the washing machine when I wash the bedding and a few drops in around the kennel helps keep the little beggars at bay.
If your dog has got a serious infestation then a spot on might be your only option :(
I give my dogs 1 garlic caps every 2 days.

Never ever had a flea problem, but had a major tick problem before. I used nematodes on my property 2 1/2 years ago and never found a tick on me or my dog's since. My dog's haven't had any frontline plus, etc on them since then either. For fleas, etc the DE does work. I've never used it on my dog's but I've heard from other's that have and they had no problem with it. Like Starrchar said you do need to wear a mask when you put it on your dog's, etc. I do give my dog's the DE in their food though.
