In searching the messageboard, I read a lot of discussion about feeding garlic. I would like to know how you feed garlic to your dogs (for you who actually use it). How many times a week? In water? Inserted in (raw) meat? amount?
I don't really care much about the articles that claim that garlic is poisnous. I have not read one post where someone claimed that his or her dog suffered from Hemolytic Anemia and died as a result. So, I don't want to start another garlic war here.
Besides garlic what else are you guys using as a natural repellent?

LOL! He doesn't get it, does he, Shelly?
There
is
no
such
thing
as
a
natural
repellent
that
WORKS!!
That's why Shelly is suggesting you shrink-wrap your dog!

Feeding anything large doses of Garlic for insect repellant is rediculas.
Makes humans stink and is not natural for dogs to eat.
Until recent years when I began letting dogs in the house I never used anything for fleas or ticks, they stayed outside and never had I any problems with health. Natural means natural to me, a dog can live out doors without any of our chemical marvels and do just fine.
If not I would blame it on poor genetics.
Now I use interceptor and frontline and I worry more about their health than ever before.
Shrink wrap sounds kinda kinky, maybe with a little oil.... mmmmmmmmm.
There is no natural cure for fleas or ticks other than burning off your property in the spring.
Garlic is best used to stay off the Vampires and should be hung over windows and doorways.
Also goes well with Italian cooking.

Sunsliver,
I got it, but if you have nothing to say except no natural repellent works, I'm simply not interested in reading your comment.

A brush and a comb....(fish skeleton for you natural types) is fine. I can't remember when I last used a flea or tick repellent. I brush my dogs daily. If I feel anything abnormal I investigate more. I have found 2 ticks on my 3 dogs in recent weeks.

I don't know of anything you can give your dog internally that really works, but you can treat your property with beneficial Nematodes. It really works, it's all natural and is not harmful to animals or the environment. I've tried diatomateous earth (food grade) on my dog and the carpets in the house with success. Just be careful and wear a mask. I must admit it's a bit messy too and the dog is a powdery mess for a while. Maybe you could try the Yahoo raw chat group as I'm sure they will have some suggestions. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/RawChat/

we found this product last year, we're not 100% flea free but i bet if we used it more often & followed their advise we would be, but even so we have not had any infestations (and we've had no freezing weather for 2 years) and our "maintainance" has been very lax

hth,
susan
ps i should have added we don't use any other flea product and we do feed 100% raw
