Does anyone here remember how much their female GSD weighed at 4 months? My puppy is 34 lbs. To me she looks so small but maybe it's normal.

Friend of mine had a working line litter the first week of June; at 4 months, the pups ranged between 27-32#, at 6 months old, they're running 45-51#.

This is a repeat breeding, and the first litter just recently had their 2nd birthday; the first litter females, in working fit condition, are weighing around 60-65#, males are low 70's. I expect by their 3rd birthday, the females will stay pretty close to the 65# weight, and the males will still be under 80#. Their weights at 4 and 6 months were in the same range as the second litter's weights, so those pups will also likely follow the same line of physical development.

So if your girl is 34# at 4 months old, I wouldn't consider her to be small at all, nor does she seem overly heavy for that age...but without seeing the frame she's carrying that weight on, it's difficult to really say for certain.

Personally, I prefer females that mature out to 60-65# when in working fit condition, and males to be under 80# when fit; the breed was always intended to be a medium-sized dog, after all. Those 100#-plus dogs that are so popular with Americans are typically oversized, overweight, or both.

IIRC, mine was 26 pounds. She's still small, at the bottom of the breed standard.  But she's mighty :)

my puppy is not fat at all. lol
i'm glad she seems to be 'normal' then
her sire ended up being very big, not bred to be huge, but he just somehow grew to be a very large dog. I still dont have much information about her dam (they only sent me a picture and her kennel name,. still no akc registartion papers, no pedigree from her dams side, ect) but her genetics should be for average size according to what I know of her pedigree so far, not oversized or large.
So it sounds like she should not be over 70lbs as a full grown adult?
