Has anyone imported a puppy lately from Germany? I know things have changed in the last few years, but I’m being told by the airlines I need a transporter like IPATA to get the puppy to the USA. I’ve not contacted them yet, but I’m sure it’s not cheap. Is there a way I can do this without costing an arm and leg?

Yes a year ago.  A good broker should be able to take care of you.

Here is an email to a broker I have used many times

Thank you, Atlanta would be where I’ll pick the puppy up.

I just spoke and used Ellen Chance's services myself...I've used her services for many years...She's knowledgeable and great to work with...
When shipping from Germany usually they'll use Grandlyn Kennels...They're great to work with too...
Shipping has gotten very expensive...I...last week...just brought in a 4 month old female GSD...She came in from Czech Republic...The cost was a little over $1400...
If you can clear a dog yourself you can save yourself a couple hundred...
If I can help you with any questions let me know...

Q Man-- $1400 just for the shipping, or for the pup plus the shipping?

Just for the shipping...

I've also found that the Airlines are demanding you use a lot larger crates then they used to...which adds to the costs...

I paid $600 for shipping an 11 week puppy from Germany to LAX

Western Rider - did you use a broker or make the arrangements yourself?

In Canada, the paperwork to import from overseas can be a hassle, and figure it's similar in USA, so using a broker or company that knows the regulations can certainly pay off.

Because they were flying into LAX late and I hate trying to do customs for LAX I used a broker but it is cheaper to fly there by $200-300 than San Diego.

Shortly before I had two come to San Diego no broker need to pass customs as I could go there with ease and do the paperwork.

All arrangements for the flight were done by the breeders. I happily did not have to do anything either time. lol

Flying into Atlanta one can go to the customs office themselves and save IF the Breeder did all the paperwork and flight arrangements as the customs office is close by.

Just make sure the office is open when the flight comes in.
