greetings all we need to train a service dog for small handicapped child.. condition will slowly deteriorate... got any references, suggestions, pitfallls to watch out for etc. Most duties will involve ... companionship, "babysitting", safety, opening closing doors picking things off floor, pull or accompany wheelchair or sled, steer away from danger, calling for help as needed... night time monitor for breathing will be added to by dog's presence 24/7 with child. chosen dog already does excellent water safety, identifies danger and removed chld from it safely, gently and firmly, and lifesaving appeared as a natural instinct, which was how identified as candidate. child has harness dog can lift him by to remove from danger. thanks

Good Morning Wolf! I'm not sure were you are located...but here's a website to start with. They may be able to direct you to a local trainer. http://www.carolinacanines.org

Thank you! - Shall check it out. Does anyone have a service dog? Could you let me know for what purposes you find them best... also easiest skills to retain, and most difficult to retain or retrain? any concerns or coments positive or neg about the experience? some of this should build on the obedience and tracking work of SchH... just a guess. Any creative ideas to share?
