i am having a tick problems with my dog..its heavy in the ears and paws. I cant find frontline or its substitues in the market ( im in bangladesh and doggy products are a rarity here) can some one plz tell me if there is any natuaral or house hold items that i can use safely to atleast stem this problem till i can find some medication for it. I can get them out of his ears cos i think it hurts him since he gets aggresive if i try to clean the ticks from them.

Fida, try including garlic in your dog's food. I have heard this helps to stem the problem. I also believe I heard there are scents that you can apply on the dog such as citronella that helps. I have found my dogs always very willing to have this parasite removed, even when located in very sensitive areas such as near the eye. We have a special tweezer that attaches easily to the base of the head and you turn counterclockwise that removes the entire parasite including the head with not much ado. Frontline and other products are certainly excellent but they are also a very potent pesticide. As soon as the tick season is over, I immediately stop using these products. I hope the ticks in your country do not carry the dreaded lymmes disease that we battle here.

Are you sure they are ticks? Can you see them? What about fleas? If you have access to essential oils, try mixing 1 part each of lavender oil, garlic oil and mullien oil with 10 parts almond oil. Shake well and apply with a cotton ball to the affected areas. If your dog licks the oil it will not hurt him Good luck.

Fida,..... Try mixing 1 part sulphur with 5 parts coconut oil and apply is to your dog's whole coat and leave it on over, and give a warm bath in the morning. This should take care of the problem.

Fida, Are you sure they are ticks - my experience with ticks - is they like around the neck - anyway, do you know anyone in the States - or do you have AVON PRODUCTS there. I always use a product called SKIN SO SOFT - it smells like my grandmother in the garden (she would use it) - but works - dilute some with water and wipe down the dog. Keep away from nose because the smell is strong and you do not want to hurt the nasal membranes- it provides a barrier and the ticks do not like it. If you can get the cream in a tube - even works better - I put it on my dog when I hike or track. Good luck
