It isn't like people can't click on "page 2"...lol Are people TAHT lazy?
People seem just find on the other 2 sections clicking on page 2 and other pages and reviving old threads.
What people having a hard time finding the "Word Association Thread"? lol.

Because Ace, the fact of the matter is people don't go to page 2. No one has answered my questions and no one has answered GSDs question.
Do you know why the count has gone down on the OT Forum?
How does limiting the board to 5 threads per topic on page 1 limit or stifle anyone? What's wrong with asking people not to flood the board with more than 5 threads about the same thing? No one is telling you that you can't say what you want, we are only asking you to be courteous to others and not flood the board with more than 5 threads about the same topic. Say whatever you want about the topic, just limit yourself to 5 threads.
How is it fair for a person to start a topic only to have another person or people hijack the thread for their own agenda?
It's called common courtesy.

Sounds reasonable IMO...: )

Would Preston (or whoever) be chastised if he put all the topics in one or two threads? because they do pertain to different things. I bet he would, as others have for going off topic. So what are the options? He really can't win. I'm sure he'd have no problem putting them under one or two threads.
Why are the numbers falling? Probably different reasons for different folks. Some, because they are not interested in what Preston has to say, others, because they are afraid to side with Preston because of the hate that will befall them too by certain members, and others still because it is summer time and they are busy doing outside stuff or training their dog! The other sections were pretty slow lately too.
I do not think Preston is stifling any posters as he is just too classy and like Hank said, he has treated everyone who disagreed with him with amazing tolerance and respect. Lately his patience seems to be waning(seriously who can blame him, only God is more patient) , but he still (unlike his opposers) has not resorted to personal attacks.
I have not read all of his links,
1. because I am on dial up and just haven't got the time,
2. because honestly I haven't got the patience to read all of it. I never have been very good at research, I am more of a labourer than a book worm. I can read for a bit, but then I get antsy.
3. Some of it doesn't interest me
However, I am truly amazed by the time he spends getting info, and typing it all up. It boggles my mind. He also must spend excessive amounts of time looking for internet sites that prove his points. AND there is no doubt in my mind he is extremely well learned and intelligent.
The reason I am talking Preston here is because it is obvious he is what brought this on (this time) so no point in fiddle farting around and pretending otherwise.
I feel like I've just written a speech. This has to be my longest post on record. So I'll end it by saying,,,
Thank you, thank you very much.
I maybe should of began it with,
Honourable admin, moderators and fellow posters:
Phew. I need ti sit down.

Ok let me try and asnwer it. Sorry it hasn't been answered as it is a valid one.
There can be numerous reasons why count has gone down.
1. When OT started it was new & exciting and as with everything...it losses its luster after it has been around after awhile.
2. There haven't been any TOPICS that people felt like (felt worth) commenting on.
3. Post on the other 2 boards to me are down as well. Lack of decent threads to discuss.
Bottom line, people post on stuff they feel is something that is worth commenting on. If the psot count is down it's b/c there hasn't been enough topics that have garnered people "fancy". Yes some threads get pushed to page 2 but they were on page one for awhile and people just didn't care to discuss them, simple as that. People need to post better topics and their stuff will stay on page one.
If the person feels the thread is being "hijacked" then they should try to get it back on track. If it doesn't happen (as some here are stubborn and cant let stuff go) then the mods should come in and put it back on track.

R1,
I see the main stay of off topics as these..
#1
News
#2
Games
#3
Conspiracy theories
#4
People...members on the form
#5
Moderator commits.
This covers a vast amount of possibilities,
much needed to give us the face book
factor.
I would say the PDB own story post was a brilliant
idea, and Red Sable, Beetree, Bob,R1, GG and others
have a talent that is extraordinary. If the flow goes
right it is better than anything I have read here. But
it needs everybody to make it work. It is the personal
acquaintance that happens over time that make it really
neat...Not just dogs.

This is the off-topic section and we are less concerned with posts going off-topic, unless it becomes a problem with a person hi-jacking threads when they have 14 threads open about similiar topics. I asked a week ago that Preston not post a thread for every conspiracy and he not hi-jack other threads both of those requests went out the window.
This not to stifle anyone as anyone can post what they want with consideration to the rules and the members.
I personally think at this point we should just use the TOS and be done with it, but I am leery because that would take away a lot of subjects and make the OT very narrow and I didn't spend all this time arguing with mods about the advantages of having an OT section, to limit it now.
Max,
Why did you feel the need to bait DD. this is exactly how things get started. Max please go and edit your post. You whine about others doing this exact thing and yet you start it.

Max stop now. You are out of line.

Right, and we love our OT section the way it is. So, why don't we just see how it goes from now on. We may need a friendly reminder every now and then.
