Good question. Earth is just a "speck" in the Universe

Look at God and I'll leave it at that. We of today have not seen him but we know what he looks like and we (for those that do) believe!

To Red Sable,
Heck yeah! I believe in the existance of aliens. To reiterate what has already been said, think about what size of an atom is compared to the size of the earth. Then understand that that atom IS the earth and realize that the universe is far larger than what we can possibly perceive. I think statistically and logically one would have to accept that life isn't something soley designated to be on earth and earth alone.
Now as to the question of intelligence, all it would take for another sentient being to be more intelligent is evoluntionary motivation and time (given that they are less violent, ie less prone to destroy gained knowlege, than we have been) Thats not to say that there aren't sentient beings on distant planets aren't as advanced as we are, but if they aren't as advanced as Humans, how could we know of their existance so far away? If an alien can make it to this planet they MUST be considerably more scientifically advanced than we are.
As to what they look like? Who knows unless you've seen one for yourself, anything else is just at best a scientific guess.
Have aliens actually made it to earth? eh? maybe The sheer numbers of eyewitness accounts throughout the ages is compelling, however the lack of undeniable scientific evidence,( or should i say lack evidence available to the public) shouldn't be ignored.
However I would have to say that if I was a distant vistor coming to this planet, there would be no way in all of H*ll I would let humanity be blantantly aware of my existance. If I had the technology to prevent it, I WOULD.
As advanced as we are as a global society lets face it. People as a whole are too often violent, crazy and unyielding. No matter how well intentioned said alien could be there would immediately be people of all cultures setting out to do everything in their power to kill, mutilate, and/or capture them. Also think of the calamity that would ensue economically, isn't fair to say that most governments would probably strive to prevent such awareness if possible?
Either way I'm interested to hear your thoughts : )

I was finishing up a walk with my old girl, we were almost home. I was in think mode and just staring off into the distance when I noticed a kind of orangish flare type light traveling slowly (airplane speed) through the sky. I didn't think anything of it to be honest, but then 2 seconds after I noticed it, It sped off faster than I ever seen anything move. It literally disappeared from sight within a split second.
Because the incident was so incredibly brief I was really going to just going to write it off as my eyes playing tricks on me, figment of my imagination, etc etc. But I looked down and Brownie (my 12y/o puppy at the time) was staring intently at the sky exactly where I had just been looking. ( She was typically nose to the ground or eyes forward on fun walks never randomly out in space,)
I can't say that it was of alien orgin, but don't know of anything human made that can move like that thing did. I wanted to say that it was just some random celestial object moving through the space, but it was in broad day light and the thing changed speeds.
