Prager, I wondered about this sentence: "I have learned this from Jiri Novotny whose theories of "myths" made his dogs legendary ( created z Pohranicni straze)."
I know what z Ps means... , don´t worry, I told you I read everything I was able to find, and I tracked back a lot of z Ps pedigrees - even in current dogs ( Jipo Me ) you are able to find z Ps ancestors born way before 1980 ( mostly females, but males, too). And I didn´t read that much because of you, but because I like some of the dogs and wanted to learn more about them...
I don´t question J. Novotny´s success as a breeder and trainer ( how should I, he is great ! ), but he didn´t create z Ps, he used the z Ps dogs, he didn´t wash all them out. By introducing "fresh blood" ( mostly DDR dogs, later on WGWL dogs, too ), he broadened the gene pool, but you are still able to find "pre" Jiri dogs in a lot of pedigrees, they are not gone.
I guess he did a pretty good job, and as a "sport trainer" he must have looked for different traits than the responsible people before him, without him the dogs of z Ps would have developed totally different for sure.
I like your last statement: "... but I am saying that he created z Ps dogs as we know them today. "
Kind regards

Okay, this was one more "off topic" post, but I think pedigrees are very interesting - and it´s good against boredom, while we are waiting...

The reason I can’t stand 15 generation pedigree analysis is that it makes the dog handler believe their dog will be exactly like some great dog from long ago. They will work their dog and expect their dog to develop into some dog that someone told them is in their pedigree and as long as they stay the course, eventually they’ll have that great dog. The moment “pedigree analysis” comes into the picture, the dog in front of the trainer is dismissed and is worked with the expectation that it will be like the dog from back in the day. The training and upbringing the dog has received up to this point is also not taken into consideration, and clearly in this case nothing 5 generations and up even matters even though there is a crazy tight line breeding staring everyone in the face. Why is that dismissed? NO ONE KNOWS THE 2-3 DOG, but at least someone knows Lord or Ex or who ever is back there some where. Mithuna has already talked about this as the trainer has claimed to have worked other progeny in those lines and at 2.5 to 3 this and that happens. So there are already expectations for the dog based on a line breeding 7 generations back.
Same thing happens with Hans’s “type” discussions or the line discussions many of us like to split GSDs into. It makes people believe their dogs will be EXACTLY like that type or line just because of the kennel names they’re seeing in the pedigree. This also many times gives people excuses for their dog’s behavior or just plain lack of training.
Believe this is on topic as the post is how the trainer needs to move forward and the last thing they should be taking into consideration is that the dog has a reverse mask, due to an ancestor 11 generations ago, and therefore needs to be worked like that ancestor because someone at some point told them the ancestor had a bunch of aggression.
