BreedDogTextWhen
German Shepherd DogGinger vom FallsviewBrandi, there's a significant difference between the word 'snippy' and the term 'snipey'. You posted the definition for the former; the latter is a well-established term used by dog breeders, judges and fanciers to describe a muzzle that is longish, narrowish and more pointed than what is considered to be the standard for a particular breed. It's not something Buddyspal just made up out of thin air--the term actually does appear in the written standards of some breeds. ....17.2 years ago
German Shepherd DogGinger vom FallsviewWRT Ginger, the photo does give her a somewhat 'foxy' appearance in the muzzle, but I'm inclined to think that as a mature bitch, she'll look feminine and refined rather than snipey. Looking forward to seeing how she develops...certainly looks to be put together nicely, with lovely coat and coloration, at her age in this puppy shot. ....17.2 years ago
German Shepherd DogSG Indiana vom Wildsteiger Land DIED 18.05.2006, REASON: HDHow sad for you, as well as for the owners of Ice...and while it is good of you to make sure that the hip status of these two littermates is made public, it should also be pointed out that it is not the fault of the breeders (nor of the owners of either dog) that these littermates were found to be dysplastic. It's the luck of the draw, unfortunately, and the only way to completely avoid it is to purchase nothing other than adult dogs who have been proven to have sound hips prior to purchase. ....18.1 years ago
German Shepherd DogDon von GardenMy condolences to the owner of this pup; a very difficult decision to have to make, especially with such a young dog. ....20.5 years ago
Belgian MalinoisMace's ODADon't throw the baby out with the bathwater.  A DM carrier, bred to a dog that is DM-clear, will not produce any affected pups, and a DM carrier is not likely to be affected itself, either.  If everyone eliminates the carriers from the gene pool immediately, the breeds involved will suffer--it's much too soon to go that route, and may never be a healthy choice for the whichever breed is being considered.

DM-genetics status is but ONE of the things that need to be considered when deciding whether a dog is worthy of breeding or not. ....
