My wife and kids have a 2 yr old FEMALE Shipoo which weighs 7 lbs along w/ our 1 yr old 85 lb MALE GS. It can work but as a few previous posts have replied, you will have to supervise their play, and always train your gs to go a little easier during their play. I must add this little shipoo is a tough little dog and has enormous ball drive herself. It is the funniest thing to see these two dogs taking turns chasing each other around the yard and chasing their respective balls!!! Again, long as the GS grows up w/ your yorkie, is well trained, and always supervised, you should be fine. Knock, Knock on wood???

Prior to purchasing a GSD whether male or female..you have to do research about the breed first...even if you are just wanting a pet companion.Too often people want a GSD whether american or German etc..and they have no idea about the breed.

I have a 1 yo male GSD, 85 lbs working lines (lower drive, neutered, pet) and 2 yo miniture male american eskimo (about 18 lbs, neutered). The GSD sometimes carries the Eskie around by the throat (he at least thinks this is a game). They roughhouse all the time, the eskie has never been hurt, but the GSD is extremely even-tempered. Find a very steady dog if you do this.
