helo GSD -- Hmm-- first we assume that what you are describing is actually is what is occuring -- quite often i have found that either the picture is not totally or 100% exact or there is more than what meets the eye -- BUT in generality 1. -- i can tell you with confidence and assuredness the relationship is way off with your dog -- [ that is ok for now if you have just acquited the dog as often is the case ] -- that is the starting point to all and any training - 2. DH is most certainly correct that most all problems cand be corrected /modifired .. to what degree that depends on handler and on the dog -- But be aware .. most people ... and i include some of those claiming that they have been training 20 + years still don't understand / comprehend training behaviorally -- 3. so what thios brings me to --- with the right guidance you can make progress but i caution you --- very much so ... and i repaet cation you .... if you do bite wok that you do not teach this dog that it can solve it's probl;ems by biting -- you will have one hell of a problem on your hands -- after all protection work teaches the dog that it is victor whether paly or serious .. and the dog rises to the occasion --yes ??-- again take DH advice ..modify the dog's behavioe and don't be overly concearned about Schutzhund at least for now -- whatever you decide --best of fortune/ggod luck --alphapup

The best piece of adviseI can give you is to find a GOOD TRAINER and have him look at the dog. I work with alot of dogs and handlers tell me they are having a certain problem with their dog and after I get to where they are I have found that it was alot of timesnot what they thought it was. So Get a good trainer to evaluate your problem. If thye dog isn trully a rank dog, always challengeing you for the top dog position You may have more then you want to deal with, there are a lot of good dogs out there. The other thing could be how the dog was originally trained. Some people start bite work with defense drive rather than prey drive, some ofn those dogs look suspiciously at everyone and as soon as someone eyes them they go into defense drive. Thats something else you may want to be aware of. Good Luck

GSDONLINE, I would agree 100% with D.H. except to say that if you do NOT get a handle on her aggression at this stage, you are in for trouble when she directs her aggression in an inappropriate time at an inappropriate person or another animal. D.H. is also correct that the dog is probably NOT a loss, but she needs someone who knows what they are doing. Depending on where you live, that may be easier said than done, but the absolute last thing you should be doing with this dog at this time is bitework. Focus, control and yes, even some correctly applied obedience is the key to making this dog be able to live safely in society. If she can not, then if you are not extremely careful, you will end up with the dog biting someone. While dogs with her perceived temperament are valuable and when properly trained should do good work (and I agree with others that what you think is going on may not be really what is going on) dogs with this behavior early on often end up wasted, and worse yet, put down. So it is imperative you get help and appropriate help. Too many people forget that SchH is not about wild aggression, but rather, controlled and disciplined aggression at prescribed times. As it is now, there is no way she would pass a BH and working on socializing the dog is imperative if she is to be able later to compete. Good luck.
