MaggieMae, I like you but I will disagree here with you.
So according to you the  buyers have nothing to do with what cars are being sold, what clothes, shoes, cruise trips, ice cream .......That is not the truth. If you give the buyer an option he will choose what ever he likes. (obviously). And pay for it . Thus the breeder will produce what sells or he will not be able to  sell it.  I am trying to educate the buyer here  and elsewhere to understand what  is  GSD all about. And then follows  and  I hope that educated buyer is going to subscribe to the original concept of GSD. Or buy a Pug or Collie.

Maggie, if you ever want your opinion to be valued and respected in the GSD community you must come to terms with the fact that many german showline dogs are NOT living up the standard of this amazing breed, and most american showlines don't even deserve the name German Shepherd Dog.  And by the way, people in public have asked what breed of dog my black and red 75 lb bitch is and didn't believe me because she is "too small" and/or they do not recognize the "bitch stripe". The masses are asses and we MUST NOT let them determine the future of our breed!

Does that mean showlines don't belong in the breed? Of course not, everyone who knows me knows I will argue the merits of showlines until I am blue in the face, but even I will ackowledge the damage and lack of working quality in them. But I will be hard on them because I want to help fix them, or at least produce enough working quality showlines so that there will dogs out there worthy of carrying on this beautiful type. I will NOT accept poor work, or extreme structure than is not conducive to a working german shepherd.

You are clearly passionate about your dog and the type you enjoy, and that's great. So take that passion and get out there and learn something, woman! Championing the showline dog without the experience to pull a good one from a bad one, or condemning working line dogs is not helping the cause.

There are diamonds and crap in every line and anyone who says otherwise lacks experience, or an open mind, or both.

quick edit: Hell yes, buyers have a say, because as long as buyers want it, money grubbing breeders will produce it!

Show dog can be a working dog , Just because its not playing the "Game" SCH does not mean it does not have a job or cannot bite just as hard as a truly focused DDR dog. Every animal , like every human has a personality, and you me and the tree have no right to judge what other's like or think is "as close to perfection as it gets" .

Maggie:

No is bashing the SL  they are pointing out something all german shepherd people , SL or WL all are aware of..

Walking on the hind legs up to the joints and hocks clicking together , rear end on ground swaying to and fro is not even what a  crocodile is suppose to look like and they walk close to the ground..

You obviously do not understand the roots of the German shepherd WORLD> period, show or work...
.

NOT ALL SL BREEDERS BREED LIKE THIS      BY NO MEANS...WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE STATEMENT OF THE MAN WHO OWNS THE WORST BRED  SL IN USA...HEIDELBERG KENNEL AND THE REST IS ABOUT HIS WORDS

"NEAR TO PERFECTION."...HE IS WRONG  HAS ALWAYS BEEN WRONG AND IS STILL WRONG.

IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILTY TO SPEAK UP AND EDUCATE ALL PEOPLE..EVEN THE PAST CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE SUFFERED THRU MANY A DOG OR GSD, FROM THERE, WILL HELP EDUCATE AND WARN PEOPLE...BAD STRUCTURE AND BAD BREEDING   CAUSES HEALTH ISSUES AND BECAUSE YOU DON'T FEED HIS FOOD...HE LAUGHS IN YOUR FACE OR OVER THE PHONE...YOU DIDN'T BUY  MY FOOD SO CAN'T HELP YOU THAT YOUR PUP IS BLIND AND HAS NO HIP SOCKETS..

JUST BECAUSE YOU BREED A DOG DOESN'T MAKE YOU RIGHT.
JUST BECAUSE YOU BUILD TOYOTOS DOESN'T MEAN YOU ARE ALL RIGHT
JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE A PROFESSOR AT ALABAMA U DOESN'T MEAN YOU ARE RIGHT.

THERE IS WRONG AND RIGHT TO EVERY BREEDING PROCEEDURE..THIS ONE HAPPENS TO BE WRONG.

I do think I have the right to an opinion about what others like and deem to be near perfection.  Just as much as they have the right to their opinion on the presumed "perfection".   I know plenty of folks who have opinions regarding what I like and they are welcome to have them!
