Teeth Smile

yea, I agree. all you have to do is run off the few remaining posters who actually participate in recognized GSD activities and the forum will be perfect. pointy ears and a bushy tail = perfect GSD. all breed problems solved. nothing left to discuss except post endless cute pics of Bullet.

are people really this thin skinned. The s/l people I know, who actually "show" could give a shit less what others think. they know what they have or don't have. same for the w/l/sport folks.

a lot of people claiming to have a s/l or a w/l really have what should be called a p/l (pet) line and are the ones most offended when someone who is not fooled by all the abbreviations recognizes it.

I think ILMD has a point on the thin skinned thing. The people who work or show their dogs can typically take criticism. If you try to give that same criticism to those who do neither and only have dogs as pets, they call you "rude" and "mean". I'm on quite a few forums aimed towards selling working dogs. Even though the group descriptions explicitly states only dogs that are or from titled or actual working parents, people still post their ads for pups from 3+ generations of non working, pet dogs. Go to the Dutch Shepherd or Malinois groups and they're full of pet people trying to prove that DS and Mals are great family pets. Point out facts to any of those in either groups and they all instantly think you're bashing them. I've seen them defend a breeder as being legit because their brindle GSD's are AKC registered. A few even purchased such GSD from this breeder! Hell, I've even seen people leave groups because their precious Dutch Shepherd was called out for the obvious Pit mix it was...

OP: If you want to join a group for pet GSD, there are plenty out there. I'm not sure if Yahoo groups are still active as Facebook groups are the big thing now. If you're joining groups specific to certain lines, then expect them to be biased towards those lines/goals. The same for groups specific to showing or working. I joined a group specific to working dogs. Little did I know that it was a bunch of LEO's that thought that anything less than their K-9's were only sport and not actually working. Even though my dogs do more training than there dogs work, I left the group. Funny thing is, the dog that I mentioned in that group, at the time was only being worked towards IPO. A few months after she's close to being certified the same as their dogs! Nothing I could have said would change their outlook, so why bother, right? I didn't take it personal, I just agreed to disagree and left.

There are thin skinned people in all groups, lets test it. When one group marginalizes and dismisses another, thin skin comes out.

I can not think of anything more unproductive than talking with a bunch of people who all agree with each other.

Me either, but there are ways we can disagree with kindness and compassion for another's feelings and choices.
