How is this substantially different from any other type of obedience?

Dogs should NEVER feel they are in charge. If they do, eventually, yes, they will end up in a situation where they get into trouble and bite someone. Steve knows she acts this way and it will forever be his responsibility to make sure she doesn't have the chance to act this way with someone else. I could give a recent example of a dog in my care whose family did the wrong things when the dog objected to certain actions they made, and the end result is that the dog now does not tolerate certain actions and people are getting bitten.
In the end, such issues are related to temperament but proper environmental stimuli can often overcome such issues.
Good luck Steve.

Some dogs may have had some sort of traumatic experience, some dogs simply don't like to be brushed.

As to Elkoorr's dog, his mother is the same way. I have had to correct her as well, and she is by no means broken either.
We need to keep in mind that these are predators. They are intelligent animals who will get away with whatever they think they can get away with. Barring a serious trauma causing fear of a particular activity, I see no reason not to correct for unwanted behavior. If a dog is such that correcting will shut it down, well..............that's not a dog I'd probably bother brushing;-)

For you 2 minutes for the rest 60 years, and done okay. What is this big issue some of you are trying to make out of this, So some of you think it intolerable that a dog does not like being brushed or combed and because you are the pack Leader as you like to put it you say this is unacceptable, You would be laughed at over here if you came out with that to some of the Guys,
As for temperament issues she has none and i do not call this a temperament issue at all
Now for some of you who tell to there dogs to do something and must be obeyed regardless of what it is tell me this and what i say is correct.
When i take my dogs out to relieve themselves. and if i say have a Pee the Dog will pee within 10 seconds of saying it
If i say have a Crap the Dog will also Crap on command, NOW' you Guys above do your Dogs Crap on demand for if you are that clever that everything you ask of it then the Dog should Crap on demand, mine do not once but every time, Crude it may be, True it is So do not make a big deal out of this simple question for i see where it is going with some by the time you have finished i will have a hyped up dog which is totally out of control threads have a way of working that way
Oh, and by the way i have given her corrections which would take the head off some of you Guys with no avail she simply does not like the combing

Don't know why you'd object to a soft cloth muzzle just as an aide for you to get her to tolerate the brushing without interfering.
