Constantly itchy...skin allergies - Page 5

Blitzen, I couldnt agree more with your post. It is heartbreaking to say or hear that your dog should not be used for breeding because it has allergies, but it the right thing to do for the breed. This doesnt mean that the dog cant make a great working dog.

I also think that some of the ingredients in dog and cat food contribute to the immune system issues. Many of the meats... mostly chicken and beef... are feed lot raised, hormone infected, fed food that has pesticides sprayed on them. This does not help our beloved pets immune systems at all.

I've been offline all day, so I still need to sift through all this information. I think I will print it all out so I can highlight and make notes.  TIG, you posed a few questions throughout your posts regarding my specificity situation and I know I will have some questions about the supplements so don't be surprised to see a PM from me soon.

Blitzen, no worries, my dog will never be bred.  Yes, I love him, and I think he's handsome and we enjoy Schutzhund together (the training has made me a better dog handler/owner), but he is not breed worthy.  Plain honest truth, and that truth doesn't bother me and I don't love him less.  :)

Regarding the idea of finding my dog's siblings to see if anyone else is suffering from allergies, I am cautious because I don't want to bash the breeder on this board by putting out that kind of a request for information.  So I'm not sure how to start searching in that regard....as far as I can gather, his direct litter mates are not listed on this database.

I wouldn't bother to research a pedigree unless I wanted to use that dog for breeding or was looking to buy a related dog.
