I have Malcom Willis book tons of info there (to much to absorb really).  I have to get the GSD specific one.

Thanks to everyone that HELPED! This topic ended up being a good one.. Its a tough thing to learn I plan to try and master it one day in the future such as the few on here that have it down pat...

Malcom's GSD-specific book covers other non-breed related genes also, such as golden-sable, brindle, and more that don't involve the breed.  It's about as dry as can be, also.  I don't think you'll find a simpler explanation than the one I've provided, but you may want to know more about masking, red pigmentation, wirehair and long-coats, white coats, etc. which you can find in the book you have.  Keep in mind genes of the other loci aren't generally closely linked to the agouti locus on the dna strand, so you will need to do additional calculations for refined probable outcomes, or you can go to http://www.tenset.co.uk/doggen/index.html to download a free software that will do the calculations for you.

I highly recommend Malcolm Willis' book; you can use it as a reference book or read it through in perhaps 6-8 hours.  A good textbook on Population Genetics would then take you to the next level, but that's a big investment of time and energy (50-100 hours?)
