This is such a fun discussion thread!

I was complaining to a friend yesterday how stunned I was by the steady barrage of comments from complete strangers about my 6 month old female GSD (49 pounds).

"Wow! He's (ALL GSDs are male, of course) runty, stumpy, too small, undersized, needs to fill-out, has a lot of growing to do, etc. RCMP dogs are waaayyy bigger than your dog!". I've had the coyote and jackal comment several times too.
I always politely respond with "Thank-you. I think she's just right."

I've gotten " Your dogs to skinny, you should feed him more"
He's a healthy 85-86 lbs. Guess they expect a gsd to be 100 + pounds

Then of course theres always " His ears are huge" ( which they are)

My bi-color GSD  causes some concern from some people.  When they ask me what he is I tell them he is a purebred Dagenal, imported!  (sometimes they will tell me their neighbor had a Dagenal, too).
Any other comments get this:  I lean close to them and in a 'stage whisper'  I say, "you know what?  You are missing a golden opportunity to mind your own business.'

Our Golden always got the "wow shes so small!" "She can't possibly be purebred shes so tiny!" "Goldens don't have blue eyes! Shes a husky mix!"

Jewel is within the standard of Golden Retriever size (her father was enormous - 30" at the shoulder AT LEAST but shes roughly 20") She also had an eye infection years ago that left scar tissue in her eyes and they look blue. Hate explaining that every time.

I walked into PetSmart with my puppy.
Right away people were speculating on his breed.
One "expert" was adamant that shepherds could not be striped.
I told the "expert that my puppy was sable.  His response...

"Sable, what the heck is sable, he's striped"!

Apparently I got taken because there is no way my "striped" puppy is a gsd.

I bit my tongue and walked away, but I really wanted to say...
In another few weeks I'm expecting pink polka dots.

I was out walking my GSD with my daughter one day and a lady pushing a baby carriage passed me, She stopped, went across the street and told me I was foolish because I had a wolf as a pet and didnt I know that it was illegal and furthermore I should be reported to CPS because I had a child and a wolf in the same house.....

You should have said..."Call them, I dare you."  and then follow her some.

I don't get any comments.  Few times I have it was either a good head nod from a police officer and even had one who loved mine and said she would love to steal him from me...lol

I had a registered, blue merle, rough collie from champion lines who was gorgeous!  I always had people doubt me when I answered their questions about what kind of dog she was...the worst was a man who laughed in my face and told me, "Someone royally screwed you over!"  I could have said the same for him regarding his brains.  If it didn't look like Lassie, it had to be a cross.  Grrrr.
