I'm in Southern Indiana, an old guy with three GSD's.
If you do not want to show or compete then I suggest doing your own basic obedience.
You might browse through one of William Koehler's books for training ideas that you can use yourself.
There are many methods you can research.
The GSD needs activity and obedience along with a good home.
Now is a good time to start.
Moons.

Other ideas would be great. I do have one book on shepherds and another that is more general in terms of training. What are the training areas that you think are most important?

Then specific training.
Tracking can be very rewarding for you and the dog.

i would get your pup into puppy classes its the best thing for a pup as you learn to do basic ob and the lots of socializing.
i also do think you should tittle your pup , get a CGC , CD if you just want to do AKC, Rally is very fun for you and the dog. or get a BH,SCH through the SV. the KKL is the breed servey, you would need at least a show rating and a sch tittle to get
this,. there are many areas for you to take a look at.
tracking is a wonder sport too.
bi-color is fine to use for breeding, your pup seems to be all working lines..
if you plan to breed you should atleast do the dogs hips/elbow as a min..
there are many people on here just want to start trouble,i would not bother to answer them.
