How are your pups doing jen? Were you able to find out what it was?
Would you mind posting the link to their pedigrees.
I thought I seen that they are show/work cross.
As you know, I have been a big fan of doing the crossover for quite sometime and am interested in who YOU picked to go with your female,(who I very much like her ped).
Just curious

I'm way behind, and my apologies to those who PM'd. This phone is temperamental when it comes to posting and due to a "location service issue" (whatever that is...) I still have no home Internet! Argh!

Last I posted, I decided not to risk a trip to the vet in Chicago weather to satisfy my curiosity about pups who were, for all intents and purposes, doing just fine. I'd hoped to get a culture of the fluid in the lymph nodes to close the case. Well, as of yesterday, no one has any fluid left. The last pup to get this, whom I'm totally blaming myself for, is no longer swollen.

I believe, in hindsight, it may have been viral, though I did the antibiotics to prevent secondary infection in the poor oozing pups. It seems to be something that requires more direct contact for transmission, as 4 had it equally, at the same time, and the 5th got it 2 days after her stupid caretaker (yours truly) accidentally dosed her with her brother's meds, from his dropper. They'd been at my feet, I confirmed identities, dosed the Amoxy, then picked them up again and realized in the blink of an eye, they'd switched positions totally and perfectly. So...I was waiting for the little princess (kinda my favorite already!) to get it and lo and behold, she did. She was the only female affected and she is the smallest pup, in addition to being the only pup with a malpractice suit.

I find it interesting that though I never separated them, it didn't spread, and that it was all males. They were too young to roughhouse when this started, so their mouth contact with one another was almost nonexistent, if you don't count Aria's nipples.

As this is a breeding I've never done, of course my knee-jerk reaction was that there was something inherently wrong or weaker (and what kind of card-carrying working line aficionado would I be if I didn't blame the SL?! Lol!). However, seeing they never really got sick, never required any special care, confined it to a lymph node in their throats, I'm inclined to think it's just a bug that could've easily happened to any under 2 week old pup. The final nail in that coffin was Aria's runny nose and mildly swollen left lymph node that I noticed petting her. She's healthy as they come, and apparently, she got it, too. She's better now, sans Amoxy, hence my feeling it may have been viral in nature.

I had an out of state visitor about 2-3 days before I noticed the raspy pup. My best guess is that he brought something my dogs just weren't accustomed to, much like when a new kid enters the preschool class and they all get sick. Overall, though I was very worried at first, I'm pleased with the strength these pups showed in illness and don't have any qualms about selling them. At first, I was thinking pet homes only, full disclosure, limited registration, due to fear of genetic anomaly causing some auto-immune issue, but if Aria, tough as she is, showed a milder version of the same, all worry is gone! What a good feeling that is, lol.

Joanie, the sire is an Ando son, V Filius vom Dahlener Land.

Thanks again to all who helped research behind the scenes and offered well- wishes.

Very happy to hear that jen,and you are probably right, something came in with the shoes..
I mean really, how many times our human babies had swollen glands as babies? Shit, first kid it's like, OM freakin God,run to the Dr.,second one, call the dr, hey,can youu call me in a script for the 'good old moxy',lol
I want to choke un-necessary calleers to the house when I have pups.
You are met at the door to run your shoes thru the bleach soaked welcome mat...
And I am very interested in how these pups come along, esp. In the work/sport dept as they age...
Just a little thing I have about crossing the two lines(to me,it really is just about bringing them BACK to where they should be. One Breed of German Shepherd.
Can't wait for the pics jen...all uphill now for them.
