Kinolog, don't let these people bother you. That burmese mountain dog in your avatar is beautiful!

I have a bi color. Every place I take her everyone asks what breed she is & when I say German Shepherd they ask right away "what is she mixed with?"
<snerk!>  One day I was at an obedience trial at a large indoor dog show that had a lot of random spectators.  A young woman walked up, pointed at my dog (the same dog in my avatar) and asked "Excuse me, is that an Australian Cattle Dog?"   Wow.  I didn't laugh, honest!  She was disappointed that my dog was "just" a German Shepherd.

I am SO tired of hearing how "small" my dogs are. My adult females range from 57 to 76 pounds.

One of these days I'm going to get harassed about it on the wrong week of the month and I'm going to tell them to go pick up a damn book and read the breed standard before they go around ignorantly insulting people's dogs, and maybe they should consider putting their own fat@ss dog on a diet.

My fiance was in PetStoopid with the VP1 female he's raising, and the clerk got into an argument with him about how she can't be full GSD because a) she's too small for her age b) shepherds don't come in that color and c) shepherds don't have coats like that. He finally just laughed in her face and walked away.

Here's her picture:

Kczaja, that's a showline that I actually like.

You guys should also know it's not JUST the GSD breed though. People tell me my Huskies are way too small to be Huskies....something I'll never understand. If we look at the standards for Huskies females are 35 -50 lbs  and 20-22 and 1/2 inches.......males 45-60 lbs and 21 to 23 and 1/2 inches at the shoulders.  I'm told all the time though mine are too small and their Huskies back home would kill mine, or they look huge compared to mine.  Well we have my male Max who is 22 and 1/2 inches at the shoulders, weighing in at 53 lbs. We have Buck who is also 22 and 1/2 inches, about 45 lbs, but he is not as wide as he will be when his body physically matures. And then there is Sierra who is  21 inches at the shoulders, and 43 lbs. Now my dogs COULD weigh more if I kept them fat, which some do tell me mine are way too skinny.

Do these dogs look too skinny to you guys? Some of these pictures are a little older, but nothing has really changed. The cool thing about Huskies is that they were meant to be medium sized dogs who could travel extremely long distances on a small or moderate amount of food. My guys all eat 2-3 cups a day even with all of the walking and other exercise they get and keep their weight up well.

Here is Sierra

And Buck

GSDguy09- maybe because she is in a more natural stack. She's really a very nice dog to have around.

In the US we like our dogs big enough to put a saddle on or small enough to put in a purse. Anything in between in crap.

How many of you have been asked if your black & reds are belgian shepherds or if your sables are part wolf?

My Cash was a floppy eared sable.  We got Soooooooo many guesses on what he was.  Labrador mixed with wolf or coyote mostly, but I think a lot of people hear exotic-sounding dog breeds, have no idea what they look like and then throw the breed name around.  "Is that one of them Malanoises?"  (pronounced "mala-noises")  Yes.  My floppy-eared sable German Shepherd is a Mala-noise.

I would just tell them that if I wanted their opinion, I would have asked for it, and I don't remember asking them for anything.  If I'm in a good mood I might educate them, but it really depends on my mood.  I don't owe a complete stranger anything, including my time or attention.  If they want to ASK something, maybe I'll chat, if they just want to TELL me something, I make it clear I'm not interested in and keep on going.  If they want to argue with me, I just tell them to do a little research and get a clue.
