Shadylady...when Prince was in his crate in the dinning room he was usually calm and quiet. When the trainer came to our home he was barking and fussing and she suggested moving his crate into the living room so Prince could see what was going on. I agree with you ,that the cage in the living room is too stimulating for him. I think I am going to move it back to the dining room......Thanks

If the crate worked where it was before, go back to that.

The dog is probably acting like a dink because it was moved, and he's not too thrilled about it.

We used to feed our dogs (when we had more than one) in their crates because we had one who was a piggy and inhaled his food in 5 seconds and then tried to eat everyone else's food too.  Feeding in their crates solved that problem, but now since Georgia is an only dog she only goes in her crate while at training.  Except for the lucky few who have dog trailers, everyone else crates their dog while waiting their turn to do protection and/or obedience.  Crate placement at our house is more about where will the giant thing fit and not what the dog wants, and it's never been a problem.

The crate is where he belongs.. Training dogs for venue or for work require crate training.. If this is a family pet   take the crate outside and leave it...if you are training for sport or for obedience   then find a trainer who knowe how to READ YOUR PUP>..this is a pup..you tell him where , what and when..

If this is a family pet...just turn him loose ..let him eat, tear, pee and do what he wants...  unbelievable the advice that is being given..

I thought you were in training for obedience or sport or for a venue...You have to decide whether you want a house dog or a trained gsd in a certain venue???

I do not know what you are doing so take your pic.

I am not very nice when it comes to giving dogs   their way...it is my way or out the door...ANd yes , the dog is in kennel lots of hours...but you schedule this dogs every minute..make hour for fun  an hour for rules., an hour for walking, an hour for going somewhere or two,   fun games and family love can come later in day for hours when you can be with dog...

then back to kennel..it is part of a dog learning to be submissive and learning rules..like kids...DOGS have no reasoning power they have to be taught good modified behaviour.

Consult your trainer and do what he says...if he knows your dog...he is exibiting excitement because evidentually he is coming into his own  excitable knowledge that if if Act like a bad dog  I get something???  am I right...on the field he is rewarded for biting????????   and someone is arousing him????right    he gets reward????yes....so now he has brought it into his kennel....just ignore the bad behaviour...do not reward it...tell him NINE  or NO    and ignore...open kennel door when he settles ...praise him...let him out and yes,,,,you can feed him in kennel so he knows it is his   DOCILE place...feeding a dog  should be not scheduled...let him get hungry each day...skip a day now and then/

WHY   because he knows who is boss...YOU.....he is maturing and this is part of maturing ..he is showing his new way of getting attention....either buy into it  or just  leave him where he is and redo how YOU react...

I would not let it bother me...He would soon learn...OH well....but he needs a firm no or nine to tell him  that is not acceptible..it is hard to tell you what to do thru a computor...

If he is showing food agression..he needs to be redone on the floor method..sit for 20 minutes in floor feed him by hand every meal he gets....and if you have kids....let them sit in on it...let them feed in the lay down and out of your hands...firm command if he growls or snaps..in fact have a ruler or a nice stick handy......wack over the snout     do not hurt your hands ... if one correction doesnt work  then number two use the ruler....you have to get attention and you have to make it hurt to show a dog who regresses back on a   food agression trait...he is still young enough to stop it right now....he has to learn when he leaves the practice field he leaves those things on the field...in other words..he has to have an off and on button...you can use this to stop his little bad actions and get him to know  not here in the house or with us.....  no praises for that kind of behaviour.......WE DO IT like this.....  as he eats from your hands praise him all the while......then put back in crate until you take him out for Potty...in a shor time after wards.....always do all of this with happiness but firmness always   after the fact  ,, showing the dog you still love him.....

Hope this helps.....I think you are training this
