This is why I dont agree with dog parks... I mean dogs are pack animals.. Every time a new dog comes in there will be a dominance game being played... Sometimes it ends fine most of the time it ends fine But what happens when it doesnt end fine... All the dogs in the park arent dog aggressive never shown signs of it but all it take is one misunderstanding and you have a huge fight on your hands.. Its kinda scary.. Thats JMHO.. I do not agree with what the officer did thats wrong.. there are other ways to break up a fight...

Well then he needs to go back to training. LEOs know that you don't shoot someone merely climbing through a window. My point with the c4 was to say that everyone here should wait until the investigation is over. You and I don't kno anything. We are getting reports from people that know half the story and were not even there. If he was wrong, he will get his. Trust me. If he is proven to be a Liar, he is done in LE. He will never be able to testify and that leaves him worthless to any agency. If he was right and the dog intended to do serious harm to himself, wife or others, then what are you going to say? And I like the people that point out that this was a dogpark, not on the street. What is the difference? Its justified for a dog to be unruly in a park, but not on the street? Whether on the street or in a park, the owner should always keep the dog in line. And I'm not talking about this case in particular. Dog parks are a cespool. I wouldn't take my dog there ever.

To comment on the "Officer could have just pulled his leash and left" sentiment...

Umm... no.
I'm sure your parents taught you, when you were five, that you don't turn your back on a strange dog, as it makes them more likely to attack.

Walking away with your own dog doesn't stop a dog fight, unless the other owner is taking his dog in the opposite direction.

Not only Cops are gun happy many people are, since it is legal to carry a gun they think they have a right to use it on anyone or anything, no matter what the circumstances are. Cops are known to use the gun on animals ( dogs) for any reason ,WHY BECAUSE THEY THINK THEIR BATCH GIVES THEM THE AUTHORITY, AND MOST OF THE TIME THEY GET AWAY WITH IT .

Batches?  We don't need no stinking batches.

Hmm..did I say turn around and walk out?...nope..I said pull the leash and walk out...as human being we are very capable of walking backwards...but the point was...If you see that there is agressive dog in a dog park..you walk out before it gets out of hand...walk around the park for an hour and come back..most likely that dog would be gone by that time...

I go to dog parks all the time, i find that they are perfect place to have your dog exposed to all kinds of elements (now this works for me so dont be jumping with opinions that I think your dog would behaive as good as mine does in a dog park) but just like when our parent thought us to walk away from the fight this would have eliminated killing a dog....

mudwick if you read what I wrote it tells you .

Yes you right no Batches are needed to use a gun , even to kill it sucks either way .

Walking backwards out of the park might have protected the Officer and his wife.

It wouldn't have done a damned thing to protect his dog.

Also, why is the onus on the man with the leashed, under control dog, to leave the park?

If this is just "Lets bash on the Cops, because we hate Cops", please, let me know, so I can do something else.

Per officers statement, he was afraid he was going to get bit....so..yes, all he had to do was get out...
Also, his dog is a GSD..not a poodle...and I am sure owner or guardian would have seeing that officer is walking out of the part would have prefered to keep his dog inside the park..therefore calling Bear-Bear back... :)

but thats besides the point...all if's and should haves unfortunatley wont change a thing.....
