Lol.. I have not contacted them yet. I am still looking around... So far I really like what I have seen from the Vikar dogs.

I have not seen alot of them on the west coast where I am.... But the couple that I have seen I liked. I know Vit Glisnik has come the USA several times to do seminars.

I'm in Wisconsin and have never seen one of their dogs before.  I am inpressed with the number of different dogs doing excellent work.  Are you planning on contacting them?

Yes I do plan on contacting them... It may be a month or 2... but I will be getting in touch.

BZCZ, more and more helpers start using the "half sleeve", you can buy them in different forms ( puppy/adult).

I´m not sure if I like them - the dogs trained/raised with this kind of "sleeve" don´t see the connection between the toy/sleeve and the helper any more.
Most of the dogs are trained in 100% preydrive, the sleeve in itself is a tool strengthening the preydrive, but this kind of toy makes things worse.

But that´s just me - I´m no point hunter. GREAT HELPERWORK in the vid, although I´m always afraid of the necks and backs of the dogs.

I like this female from the Vikar kennel...

Susie,

Your absolutely correct.  You can even see at one point in the video where there is a sable doing a bark and hold and the helper throws the sleeve and the dog leaves the helper and chases the sleeve.  He shouldn't chase the sleeve.  This is a training issue as you point out.  There are other points in the video where they do work the dogs without the sleeve and you could see enough to know that the dogs have the ability, its just not being tapped. It is the prey drive that allows the dogs to hit like that on the long bite.  You could see in the video though a couple of dogs doing very nice ob before or after a grip so they do have the nerve to switch it on and off.

It's always worrisome when dogs hit like that.  But the helpers do a great job of catching them.  When you catch a dog like that and allow them the "alley" to punch through, it is all straighline stress on the dogs neck and back which is much less likely to cause any long term health problems.  Its the jamming or compression on the neck/spine that causes problems. I know I prefer the "full" sleeve for helperwork as it also helps keep down what I call the "oscillations" where the dog is twisting on it's axis from the strength of the hit.

I really liked everything that I saw and I think it's a great testament to the breeder that he/she can field so many nice dogs all from their breeding.

BZCZ,

I was inpressed with the number of very nice dogs in the video. Some strong females as well... nice to see a kennel that consitantly produced strong females like that.

However, I will be looking for a young male. Vikar is VERY high on my list..

Yeah!  My Favorite(s) were the Gabby and  Diana females, but there were a bunch of nice ones in there.

Haven't had a chance to watch the other video yet.

Jyl,

I have a Congo Vikar son out of Denny Jipo Me.  He's from VanDenHeuvel K9.  Bravo has bilateral elbow dysplasia and allergies.  He's nearly 11 now and has knee issues as well as something neurological in his hind end.  I haven't tested him for DM.  He's just on pain management at this point.  I don't know anything else about the other Vikar dogs, but wanted to chime in based on your question.
