Hi Beetree,
Here is an additional way to train the STAND .
While heeling the dog on leash and when your right foot hits the ground
Give the STAND command and place your right palm on the dogs forechest to prevent it from moving forward.
While at the same time placing your left palm on the right hind leg knee joint. (just touch the knee with your open left palm )
The moment the dog stops praise by saying "good stand " and scratch the breast bone lighty. then repeat the sequence
a few times.
It has worked for me on many occasions .
