I was NOT and NEVER have complained about people from other countries writing here in English. In fact, isn't it a shame so many of them write the English language better than the Americans (some of whom take pride in continuing to stay ignorant)?

And yes, Pharoah, we can blame illiteracy on the poor quality of schools in this nation to an extent. It works for children who know no better. But lately, I see no children posting here. Adults have to take responsibility for themselves and for bettering their skills, a primary one of which is being able to read and write the language with some competency. Your mother did that. And yes, I have studied a little Arabic and it is extremely difficult for me. But there is no excuse for being lazy and not working at learning to communicate in writing.

Reading some of the posts here and trying to understand what the person is asking is sometimes impossible. Throw in an attempt to purchase a dog from someone in another country who is not fluent in English and, voila!, there is part of the reason for so many misunderstandings.

Ziegenfarm, the first word in a sentence starts with a capital letter.

If you are going to correct others, your writing needs to be a reflection of what you expect .

YR, we all make typos, and that is not what we are talking about. I make many typos, and I always try to proof what I typed before sending, but sometimes still miss something.....especially when a client dropped a heavy wooden dog ramp on my toes this morning.....LOL. At least it wasn't my head (or maybe that would have been better...would not have hurt me???#@##^)

As i said i am an Englishman like Missbeeb and Liz and a few other guys on this Forum,

But i still make mistakes and most of this is due to me typing with just one finger.

Plus i do not always check the spelling most times i post and have to get out to see to the pigeons and dogs  by six oclock in the mornings

I even wrote a whole book typing with the one finger, I had a spell check, but it was in the USA version of English and some words are not as we say or spell them over in the UK,

I got by okay, but then what am i paying the publisher for, he can do the spell check for me

Plus i do not bother if anyone makes spelling mistakes, so long as it is readable that is fine,

I remember i got pulled up once by a poster on here regards my spelling,  but i had some fingers in plaster then, which made it difficult

Hodie:  At least we are starting out the new year laughing, still. That is worth three toes, isn't it??? I forget to proof read when I get mad and am in a hurry.  I am glad we can edit our posts. Sometimes I look back at what I wrote and wonder , who wrote that mess... Steve keeps me on my toes as he has excellent writing skills, and spells like a dictionary. (L. not 1)

I hate when people use the word "writing" when they are really "typing".  Also, when closing a letter with "Thank you" you should use a comma instead of a period at the end.   Thank you, Jen

I compose it in notepad and type it on the database.  NOW, not then. When you have someone critiquing you, you get a little paranoid about making so many mistakes.

Also, when half blind and I use caps, no throwing bottle caps at me.
