Wdozier.... Don't "out" him..... he is too young. Come out with us tomorrow, I will explain why. I had the same issues with mine, and I am having to back track on training. PM me I will give you details on the location and time.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I really like the two ball technique. I think that may work.  Sarge is almost 7 months old now. Over the past 2 months now he has really showed more interest in playing and pulling on his toys... maybe holding them more then pulling.  I honeslty dont have the time right now, with work and school to devote getting him into schutz training or sports training.  I hope in the future maybe we could do tracking. I dont knw the first steps to take on achieving that. But I think thats something him and I would enjoy learning.

Thank you everyone for your advice.

Also, something to think about .....If you try to pull it from him it only excites his fight and prey drive further and he will continue to try to fight you for it!  This accomplishes the opposite of what you want him to do.

Thanks Sonora.  I have been doing the two ball technique but without giving the command as he spits the first ball.  Just doing nothing doesn't work with Pharaoh.  He will just throw the ball and chase it.

Flanking a pup?!? Egad! Bad idea. IMO a dog is never too young to learn the "out". I start my pups at 8 weeks. Anywho... I'm no one in a position to be dolling out training advice, but one fact that I'm proud of is that every dog I've trained outs clean on the helper. I don't even use a prong collar when training. No electric either. It's just not necessary because I laid the foundation as a young pup. It's a really nice feeling to not have to engage in a pissing contest with your dog on the protection field. I hope that you find some experienced folks to help you with your own dog. Good luck! - Yvette

i teach pups to out ...when they are biting a.rag, tug ,ball etc by pressing their back dewflaps [i think it is called] down onto their molar teeth ...adding pressure with my thumb and saying aus..works great ....also works great  with adults..but i wouldn't reccomend it with a dog that does not love you......could lose that thumb...  don't forget to praise..

Thank you again Sonora,

He is now spitting the ball when I say "Out".  I started out like you said, giving the command as he was dropping the ball on his own.

The interesting thing is that he is now giving me the ball we play catch with inside the house.  Not just spiiting it at my feet or putting it on the couch next to me, he is putting it right in my hand.

So, now I am adding the word give.

Thanks again for the great advice,

Michele and Pharaoh
