Hmm that is good to know, I am not sure why people have said not to feed pork, but I have been told by numerous people.  Hmm  I just saw pork necks today for $1.20 a pack, not a bargain, but I did find whole chickens at the gorcery this weekend for $.49 a pound!  Limit 4, there are two of these stores within a couple blocks from each other, so I am going to both of them each day for the next 5 days!!!

I cut out the breast and the dogs get the rest!  AND these are Foster Farms Chickens very good quality and fresh.

Susan what do you consider an unbiased source?

utzczr no expert here but it is not alot more energy needed, add one of the below  proteins to add to 1/2 (kibble) you feed now  total amount (1-2 cups) or normal sized feeding add a little water to make it slightly moist and include supplements as you learn what is best for your dog. Eventually you may drop the kibble and go complete RAW by substitute kibble for oats, rice or other grains as well as vegtables or fruits as homemade filler. simple & appreciated!

egg - yogurt - canned oily fish - liver or any organ meats or ground meat - cottage cheese

less than a pound of meaty bones will replace the 2nd meal of the day. (fresh or thawed chicken backs mostly but we use all varieites yes pork IS stinkiest)

what do you consider an unbiased source?

Well certainly not vet schools because they receive way too much money from kibble manufacturers.  One would have to know who did the study as well as who funded the study to determine if it was unbiased or not. If anyone involved has a stake in the outcome then results aren't to be trusted. It's simply way too easy to "lie with statistics" so you have to trust those designing the study, executing the study, and interpreting the data.

utzczr - we like lonsdale's diet and he has a guide on his website www.rawmeatybones.com which is much easier than BARF to prepare.

also on the "Raw" thread someone posted a method to gradually switch over from feeding kibble to feeding BARF by feeding both for a time.  if you do wish to feed both (we didn't we just switched) this method sounds like it would really help avoid problems that may arising from the different digestion rates of kibble & raw, so you might want to read that post. here's the link to it:
