I may not stay at the fancy places and have the slick RV's, but I still enjoy the traveling and the comradery shared.  Its two moons on the phone with directions to Shelley's. I can bring the Tuna Salad, and the hard crust bread.

Even at  6.5 mpg, (about $1.00/mile these days) that RV, pulling the dog trailer, was the best deal I ever had. You spend most of your time in the parking lot walking dogs anyway. Might as well stay there. No un-packing, schlepping dogs and crates in and out of hotel elevators, eating in expensive restaurants, and if you want a nap along the road, between tracking and obedience, just climb in, close the curtains, and turn on the generator, TV and the a/c to drown out the noise outside. WHAT ice chest? I could pull ice cream out of the freezer and when it rained I was the most popular person on the grounds. Ha ha ha. No lines at the pottie. Need a shower? Quick dog bath? No problem. I could take out the dinettes, put crates in their places, and sleep over the cab just as comfy as a pea in a pod. I had custom made light stands strapped to the back bumper, could light half a soccer field with the generator, haul picnic sets and BBQ grills on the roof (nice viewing stand too) and blast old rock and roll tunes for 500'.  Plenty of room for everything. when you consider the price of gas for an SUV that holds 3 crates, hotels,  meals, comfort and convenience, they are still a darned good deal on any trip within 500 miles of more than a day or two duration.

One of these days I'll buy another "portable club house", a low-mileage dinosaur I only have to pack ONCE. They're giving the damned things away these days. Hitch up the trailer and hit the road. One hour and gone. Its all there, right where you put it the first time. Just don't leave the pinch collar at the foot of the ladder to the cabover bunk. Bad news in the middle of the night.

Abhay, you have made my day!!!!

Blitzen,

My brother in law retired and bought a brand new truck and a monster Air Stream to travel, they have been to every National park in the USA..

First trip the new truck dropped a transmission, and gas price's were just starting to climb and they had to cut that trip short.   The Air Stream had to sit as the truck was trailored to a Dealership, and they had to rent a car and a room.

Breakdown's on the road are very expensive.   They see you coming and show no mercy.

Needless to say they haven't been able to travel as much as they had planned and did not sell their home.

Shelley,

For what you do a small RV is probably the best way to go.   They are really cheap right now, I see ad's all the time.

I used to travel to gun show's, loading and unloading, sleeping in a mini van, no shower's and no way to make a pot of coffee or cooking anything, it sucked.   An RV would have been great but half the time I didn't even make enough to cover expense's.

Now a day's you can find me in the primitive camping area's sitting on my cooler, sleeping under a piece of plastic, and making my coffee over a fire with a side order of bacon  and egg's.   It's all good until it rain's..lol

I thought about bringing one of my dog's but I think it would be more trouble than it's worth all thing's considered.

I'll just show her the video's later.....:)

Brent.
