I agree with Preston although I think the front angulation is not as correct as do others. But neither is it really out of line. The topline is very nice. The croup is a bit short and steep and, in my opinion, that is not likely to change.

Preston is right on as far as length issues. The WL dogs are often way too long. This is a violation of proportions (length to height) for sure, but more importantly, it can affect their working ability. Such dogs are not as athletic compared to a shorter dog nor do they move correctly. There are rare dogs who are too short but, as Preston mentions, they are very rare. I think in all the years I have been looking at photos here, I might have seen a handful. Dogs who are too long also worry me especially if one is doing a sport with the dog that requires jumping or worse, courage tests. As the dog gets pounded physically, longer bodies do not take that kind of activity nearly as well and, in my experience, often end up with back injuries. The torque on a longer body, for example, when a dog is caught by the helper in the air on the courage test can build up serious pressures as the dog gets twisted around.

I do not consider this dog "high" in the withers at all, but rather, just about right lending to that nice topline. Most dogs who are high in the withers do not have such a gentle sloping topline and the proportions of the chest to the front leg length is often way out of balance.

It is never easy to discern east/west feet from a stack unless really pronounced and I don't see any obvious issue there or with her back feet either. Besides light eyes, which one cannot really judge here and which is a fault that can be considered with a mate with dark eyes, she has no glaring fault and should grow to be a nice female. There may be a slight knick behind her shoulder, or it could be artifact.

In my opinion, all in all, a nice female who would probably get at least an SG in conformation should she be properly prepared for showing. Good luck with her.

Not sure how anyone could judge eye color in that first photo anyway or east west feet for that matter. I think she is a lovely looking female, well put together, nice color. Congratulations, I hope she does well for you and her handler.

Very nice looking working line puppy.  I am seeing a tad east-west, but that could be an optical illusion.  Her length to height looks to be about 9 to 10.

Tracing paper is an excellent suggestion, Preston. I am studying dog structure just to improve my own knowledge and currently using angles, rulers and a protractor. I've wanted to make some transparencies but good grief, what size should the ideal dogs be?! Photos come in all sizes and tracing paper is cheaper. lol.

Perhaps I should clarify my comments about length. I was speaking of WLs often being too long, in general, and I agree with Preston on it being a problem in WLs that is to be avoided. This particular pup is not too long.

What does WL mean?

Don't laugh.I just learned how to upload a picture. From this picture which is not the best because of the angle taken. Are you able to point out anything about the structure of this individual? Thank so much in advance. Candace

WL here means WORKING LINES....vs SL = SHOW LINES ----Certainly not official jargon, but good enough.

Rainhaus, the photo is not close up enough to do justice to a critique. Post a good photo and perhaps someone will comment.

Hi

The dog looks nice, slighty long in body ,medium bone, black and tan in colour. The colour could be stronger. The head looks ok ,withers should be higher, firm back, with a slighty short and slighty steep croup. The top line shows a slight dip behind the withers.

The front and hind angulations are good. The left front may be out of position as the dog is free standing.Hope this helps.

Normally i take my photos, from the side and slighty to the front, approx. 3meters from the dog. This is to show a clear picture of the head ,fronts and overview of the dog. Some times it is better to have the dog free standing, than trying to pose the dog,if you do not know how to stack the dog.

One must know if the dog is a male or a bitch and the age, and possibly the height of the dog in order to be able to give a better critique .As we are only looking at photos.Trying to be helpful.
