I absolutely agree with seeing the dog in person.

It is amazing how some have such a good sales pitch on the net,,, and then you see the dog, and think, WT*?  not even close to what they described.

I agree Unless you know the breeder or the broker don't buy sight unseen.  I did with what is supposed to a reputable kennel oversees and I got a dog who is afraid of his own shadow.  He must not have seen the light of day in his first 7 mos of life.  I was surprised as this dog supposedly participated in a puppy socialization program.  He stayed with me and is now 8 years old and still has many issues but he has a good home with me. But talk about expense Not only the cost of the dog initially and shipping but the cost to keep a dog for its lifetime when it cannot do the job you wanted it to do.

That's a shame, Lyn. Good for you for keeping him.

Then, there are those breeders who ship demons like that dog your friend got, disguised/represented as just an innocent pup.

Yes Jen there are those breeders too!!  LOL!!!

Keeping him isn't always easy Jen, but it wasn't his fault so I do the best I can by him.  My husband would love him gone, but that ani't happening.

I agree as well. I think many on this forum have been scamed in some form or way at some point, and we've learned the hard way from it.  Even in regards to someone getting a puppy or young dog from me (with Huskies) I've always had them come out here and see the puppies and dogs in person.  I use to refuse to ship actually as I wanted them to meet the dogs, but also I wanted to personally meet them.  The one's who got a Husky puppy from me in Germany (Military family living on base in Germany) recently did not come out to see her, but some of their family in America did.  And then they kept the dog for a couple of months before it flew over (at about 6 months of age) to Germany.  They were extremely happy with their pup, no fear issues from the plane flight, acted like it had known the family forever, and the pup does great with their young children.  They couldn't be more happy.

I bought two dogs seeing them for the first time at the airport. I'm happy with both. Spend time on the phone if the dog is in the USA, otherwise email and translate with a good translator for dogs outside the country.

Well Im happy to report that when I went and saw the dog I didnt want, I saw a another male that was awesome. So the breeder offered me a puppy from an upcoming litter, from this male, at a reduced price because of the time Ive spent trying to find the right dog (and the hours spent driving). I have to say that the breeder has really stepped up and I'm puting down a deposit tomorrow.

Awesome! Good to know it was miscommunication, not malice. And nice of you to give him/her a second chance.

Good to know the breeder is standing by her promise to fit you with the best possible dog.  Good luck on your upcoming pup!
