Pseudoscience isn't just annoying.  It can actually be dangerous.

From http://www.altweeklies.com/gyrobase/AltWeeklies/Story?oid=oid%3A147039

"The late Carl Sagan addressed the serious problem of pseudoscience in his 1997 book, "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark." Pseudosciences, he explained, appeal to our emotions rather than our intellect. They are also easier to present to the public than science, because of their relaxed standards of evidence, so a culture lacking knowledge of scientific methods is easily swayed.

While some pseudosciences, such as astrology, ESP and "ufology," are more obvious, those cloaked more deceptively in the terms of science, for example, in medicine and psychology, are more difficult to detect. "Pseudosciences purport to use the methods and findings of science, while in fact they are faithless to its nature - often because they are based on insufficient evidence or because they ignore clues that point the other way," wrote Sagan.

"It is no coincidence that many promoters of 'quick fixes' avoid rigorous scientific scrutiny of their treatments, and use emotionally-laden language to promote those treatments," said Dr. Gina Green, lecturer in public health and special education at San Diego State University. "Put simply, pseudoscience has always sold better than science."

Jayne:  Preston has been a member of this pdb for many years before I joined it...The recent remark that postings that I put up are all laughable and I explained    if you want to point fingers and laugh  then  point them at Preston....Most all here are very knowledgable of him..He holds a \PHD and he knows more of what is happening to our Government and by it and thru it..Anything he send me I will post if I want and you choose ,,but do not make fun of him nor say he is a    "scare monger."

Preston can come on here and explain his doctorate if he so choses... I would believe him any day over the USgov.org or com..

I do not have the permission to tell of his private life or his place of employment, etc concerning his doctorate.........

He quit posting for the same reason others have......name calling and bashing...no need to run people down you have no knowledge of what you speak....

I know him well and I cannot give out personal info....
If you do not want to take my word for it   that is understandable
Thought I would explain your question.....Most longtimers here know Preston.

What is his Ph.D. in, then?  Surely giving that bit of information still preserves his anonymity yet is very important in determining the reliability of the source.  Even stating where he got his Ph.D. is reasonable.

YR said: KEEPTHE FAITH: Do you have a PHD behind your name?

No, I don't!  But having a PhD does not entitle one to a monopoly on the truth, wisdom or plain old commonsense - and not having one does not preclude one from the acquisition of knowledge. Remember YR, that most doctors, lawyers and other professionals do not have a PhD either.

If Preston has a PhD, it merely means that he has achieved a certain level of proficiency in whatever area of research he chose to do to get his doctorate. A person can get a doctorate in economics which would not entitle him to any greater expertise in the area swine flu and infectious diseases than someone who does not. Jayne raises a legitimate point about the field Preston got his doctorate and the university that awarded it to him. I also agree with you it is information that should not be released without his express consent. If Preston's credentials make him a credible source for some of the misgivings about the swine flu vaccine, he should be willing to cite them.

My recollection is that Preston was quite helpful to me when I posted about a problem I was having with my GSD - so I certainly don't have an axe to grind against him. But I also recall that he was one of those who posted on several occasions about false flag operations and various conspiracies that he claimed some sort of "inside" knowledge.

YR, I am just not into conspiracies like a few on this board are - whether it is Bush/Cheney being responsible for 9/11 or Bill/Hillary Clinton being responsible for the murder of Vince Foster or that Obama is a tool of the Jews as they seek to destroy the entire world economy! It is the easiest thing in the world to selectively pick certain facts, ignore others and then come up with a conspiracy. The amount of outright misinformation and disinformation that circulates around the net is amazing and some of it has been posted on this board.

Do a google search on “swine flu conspiracy” and you will have hits with the most outlandish, bizarre theories including ones that suggest it is part of a one world government plan to reduce the population! What I also find amazing is that often the very same people who say that the government is incapable of running anything are the same people who propound these conspiracies about governmental involvement in a gigantic conspiracy with all sorts of motives using the swine flu vaccine!

I gave my reason for not taking the swine flu vaccination - it has not been adequately tested on humans. Do I believe the CDC and other government agencies when they say the swine flu vaccine is safe? I absolutely do – but it does not invalidate concerns of people who feel that it has not been sufficiently tested on humans to be able to categorically declare it as safe. Having said this I would not challenge or question the wisdom of anyone who chooses to be vaccinated. It is very much an individual choice and people need to make informed decisions.

I don't buy into the conspiracy issues like using it to control the population and all this other stuff.  I do believe there was/is a concerted effort on the parts of companies that are poised to make billions by generating fear though.

I'd skip any vaccine for a number of reasons.  #1, there isn't really much of a threat.  What the heck is there really to be afraid of?  a little illness?  BFD it's a part of life.  Taking care of yourself usually takes care of that anyway.

Am I afraid to die?  Not really.  I know they like to sensationalize the deaths, but really there are very few, and most of them have other problems.  The children ones really get me, most of those that have died have been on heavy epileptic and seizure meds that absolutely destroy the immune system.  Is it any wonder they dont' stand much of a chance?

another reason i'm skipping it, is that i'm not going to serve as a guinea pig.  They say it's safe, but how do they know?  Testing started August 10th and about 5 weeks later in September is was approved safe and effective by the FDA.  Really?  about a month of testing is all that was needed?

I'm sorry I wouldn't drink that stuff, let alone inject it  in my arm

Yellow Rose, I disagree with you about the lamb with two horns deal and America as a beast of some sorts. This is where your misguided. Your not following the "right" Jesus Christ in the Bible as per the United States Declaration. Please resource Revelations 3: 7-13. New King Bible.  LMAO

Our founding fathers fought for this country and won a crown of Freedom, our founding fathers formed a country of people's via Jesus Christ himself. Your reference is Revelations 3: 7-13.

And this is why we are hated. Truth to Power.

Ever wonder what became of those lost tribes ? The Bible tells us so.

Ohhhh it's a bright day in America today ....

(edit)  Ohh ya,

Amazing isn't it. :o)~

What happened YR? I think you took a shot of Ugly to your veins.

Just to put things in perspective, one needs only to remember that the Unabomber has a Ph.d. (in mathematics).

And, I think Preston has wisdom concerning knowledge of the GSD, but he's not exactly the Pied Piper. Follow at your own risk.   I chuckle at those secret sources, by the way, my guess it is a bunch of hogwash or rather the imagination of an aging, once-clever mind.  I haven't a reason to feel animosity against Preston, personally, either. Except for some bizarre rationales, he's okay, and I would read his dog posts if he chose to post, once again.

I won't be getting the shot, either. My DH though, has other concerns that make getting the shot look attractive.
