zdog,  do not know the statistics about paralytic polio, but my parents went to a school in St. Louis that was established just for children crippled with polio. They met at that school. They have talked about how lucky they were because many children were in iron lungs and could not come to school at all. Also, they maintained relationships with many people with similar debilitating results through special organizations during the early post polio era. BTW, my mom is 91 and my dad is 95 and they are still getting around and high functioning. They never perceived them selves as disabled.

Sorry...I had to add that info...I am pretty proud of them.

Frankly, I don't care what the "international members" think about Americans.

Well, here is one that will "get ya" -- IT'S BAAAAACK !!

 zdog,

I could care less whether you or anyone else chooses to take any type of vaccine, but at least stop showing your complete ignorance of the history of disease and medicine in this country and the world and get your facts straight. It is a complete disservice to suggest that polio was innocuous. I suggest you read more about the history of the disease. Just because I suspect you are young, and therefore have no understanding of history on this subject, I will post something that will enlighten you. Polio remains a serious threat in many parts of the world.

http://www.umw.edu/hisa/resources/Student%20Projects/McCreedy/students.umw.edu/_lmccr9sd/poliovaccine/history.html

Further, you are misinformed about the process of vaccine manufacturing, and what is and is not added and is or is not PROVEN to be of harm.

Lastly, you demonstrate a complete misunderstanding of the ethical, and legal implications facing any firm who should decide to manufacture a vaccine for use in this country, including a vaccine for a bioterrorist weapon that might be developed. If I thought you wanted to learn to think critically about this and other subjects, I would suggest additional resources for you to review before you continue to embarrass yourself with ignorant comments such as what you made above.

As for understanding why any influenza virus is of great concern, I suggest you educate yourself about what happened with the 1918 virus.

Bazza, as for YR, give up. Some here are not capable of critical thought and it is easiest to join those who give ridiculous conspiracies credence.  Then, for some reason, they litter this board, as demonstrated over and over lately, with crap. The internet has lost it's promise and has, instead, given voice to those who are ignorant and proud of it.

Sometimes I wonder what some of these people drink........

TONIGHT at 5p/2a ET – Glenn Beck takes a look at the fears behind the H1N1 flu and provides you with the best information available. Tune in!

by hodie on 08 October 2009 - 19:10

LOL.....

Glenn Beck is hardly an authority on anything (except alcohol and 12 step programs) and is part of the problem in that he cannot think critically or present anything but his opinion. If someone wants the "best information" available, there are MANY other sources that would be first choice for anyone with a real interest in understanding and educating him/herself.

Hodie you think you are a Know-It-All.   I luvvvvvv Glen Beck -- the only man that has the BALLS to tell it like it is.   Yes, he is a recovered Alcoholic -- SO?   Got something to say about that too ?   You worked in a vet's office, is that correct?   ....and that makes you intelligent/educated !!    Maybe you ought to "tune him in" and Educate yourself.

Oh Lordy, I went back and was reading "some" of the posts.   I see the words "critical thought" / "critical thinking" over and over (like that is supposed to "impress" the reader)  -- LOL
