Vet says: "there is the possibility that he has hip displaysia."

yellowrose says: "Yes , he may be dysplastic...Change vets immediately"

Naellik says:  "I LOVE Blunt brutal honesty!"

Uh, I don't think you do, Naellik.

People, do you hear yourselves?!  yr said the same as the vet, yet commands "Change vets immediately."  Can you see that you are outraged when a DOCTOR tells you something you don't want to hear but when a bunch of strangers on the internet tell you the Exact Same Thing you call them "experts" and say you love it.

You said you might take him "back to Cornell."  For what was he taken to Cornell?

I agree 90 pounds does seem a bit high for an 11 month old.  Jumping down 3-stairs at a time, slow him down for now.  Get him OFF IAMs puppy food.  Get him on a good qulity adult food.  Grain free or at least corn free if you can.  Taste of the Wild, Before Grain, Innova Evo, there are many good quality kibbles.

Find a different vet.

I have one and she will jump when excited and scream loud enough to make you think she was hit with a bat, Na, that is just her having fun! I have a younger male and when he is having fun and excited he has a high pitch bark, sounds like he is in pain. Then if he feels the need to take over gaurd duty he has this real rich deep bark. the pup is the first dog I have had with 2 very different barks, they all have a different sound for whatever they are up 2, but he sounds like 2 diffferent dogs. Your dog may not even be in any pain, just having fun and expressing himself. Have him prelimed, so that you know and. If he does have HD, it is not the end of the world either! They can live long healthy productive lives with HD. It is only when it is sever, or wanting to breed/show that it changes his life style. IF he is over weight, he can pull something, so slim him down some and have fun with him.

When I first read the thread title, I envisioned much worse!  Verbal abuse seems minor compared to really ripping him apart!;)

If that is your beautiful boy in the avitar? He is nice color and a bit pudgy..Yes he is very overweight. I have three that sneak up that size every once in a while. Mine love to eat.

It is hard to make people who have not been in this breed for long to understand until a cynerio like your comes along...I believe he hurt himself somehow , since you now provided us some info about landing funny.

Slow down with his jumping., I don't allow it until after xrays are done at 24 mo.  simple jumping is okay , good tracking, good swimming, is wonderful..but I never allow a young pup to jump out of my truck or my jeep..(cj5 and cj7 ) higher than normal and I don't allow picnic table jumping either.  What I can see from the avitar ,because he is plump, he has not gotten his muscles toned up , so as a baby teenager, his ligaments became strained in what ever he happened to do or he landed wrong., causing a sprain or a ligament pull.  Gradual exercise everyday is better for him.

One of my buyers just called and said he blew out the pads on my boys feet walking a mile yesterday..on an asphalt road,.  O GOODNESS ME>>dog hasn't walked on a road in one year and he takes also a 5 mo old female he just bought from me and his 5 yr old Fiex , whose pic I have posted many times here, for a 1 mile walk and back..Wondered what to do?  I screamed at him, have you lost your marbles?  He knew I would. He likes my blunt answers but is ready for the bat when I swing. So now his feet are in socks and bag balm on them and in a kennel for 7 days. Walk short distances a little at a time, increase the length .

Do buy the large breed dog food, it is made for that reason, and see if you have sunshine mills brand called  Nurture Heavenly Harvest Holistic dog food..I will link you...no corn no wheat and no soy. Fat is needed for sure, but you need more work with the poochie and not so  much jumping. Some one may be giving him table scraps or treats????????? hee  hee  hee   Ganny knows. I tell my grandkids...Ganny has eyes in the back of her head....lol My mom told me that all her life.

www.sunshinemills.com/index.php? (Beige bag ) Call com and they  will tell you where in your town to buy it.or a comparable other one they make.

Vets, just like anyone, fall prey to the numerous myths in circulation, and we all know what a bunch of know-it-all/know-nothings people become when chatting about their pets. I have heard such misguided jabbering that I had to stifle hysterical laughter before attempting to calmly bring things into focus.

There are many completely unfounded myths surrounding posture, gait, body type, etc and a supposed correlation to CHD. When you hear them you are being talked at by someone who knows little if anything about the subject.

As previously stated, keep him lean, keep him moderately active, but not strenuous or sustained for hours at a time.

Discourage high jumping and any activity that puts him at high risk for twisting, wrenching, or jarring his joints.

I have a very healthy young female in peak condition that runs several miles as if it was a walk to the fridge. She began winceing and whining with every step without explanation. I kept her on reduced activity (1-2 mile walks instead of 4 mile runs) for 2 weeks, and she was back to normal. I believe she suffered a minor sprain while playing.

9 GSD's out of 10 in the U.S. are utterly incorrect in their structure. People frequently ask me what breed my dogs are, as they have no idea what a proper GSD looks like. Do not let all the talk discourage you. Good Luck, Jonah

One local vet pronounced that all BLACK Shepherds were Belgians... White German Shepherds were part wolf... and that Alsations were the police dogs.  so Guess I didn't know nothing!!  LOL

Take anything other than medical info with a grain of salt... and if even that doesn't seem right , get a 2nd opinion.

Photo, bloodlines would be a must for most to make a honest evaluation of him,he looks proportioned in the snow, head chest and body lenght. The weight seams high so I would look to switching to raw, loose the filler and increase protein. Most of us have gone thru many vets ,some just dont care for GSD'S , there big ,a handful, and usually  dont like strangers and small rooms, so it takes a special vet to care for one(that knows what they are doing)  Most will not like raw feeding and want to give them way to many shots.I went thru 6 vets before I found one who she will except, and the vet doesnt like raw, put does know and understand what Im doing  and respects my chose.  I wouldnt even judge a male till 2.  Even if you dont go to raw at least   start  fish oil as it is a natural anti-inflammatory, good for coat and digestion. Watch some normal things ,nails, and paw pad care, I also wouldnt  leave him out in very cold temperatures. Flooring in the house sometimes cause a dog to pull on muscles to stay on their footing. Yes  at his age  he should look like a teenage boy  who  is bumping and stumbling into everything laugh and enjoy him.

A picture of your boy would be nice to see.  I think too that 90# on an 11 month old puppy is a lot.  My male is still a string bean at 7!

and yes most vets know squat about GSD's, so take it with a grain of salt.  Trust me, I worked for one for 9 years!  Only one of the vets I ever worked for actually liked the breed.  Though they do like my GSD's.  Taking the gang and baby Avery in tomorrow for rabies (uggh).  Well two of the dogs are getting rabies, not the baby, lol And my old girl is going to start on acupuncture.
