Well shawni does have a point, he does post clips of his own dogs working while most others have nought.

Posting vids isn't a free pass to become an azhat. Nor does it negate all else that is less desirable in the life of being his dog.

Well, speaking of clips and evidence.
We are making some serious progress. He's a bit hoarse from all the bark and holds he's been doing lately though...your turn Shawnicus.

Nice dog, not my idea of aggression tho but that's more the training ie decoy a friendly, obliging chew toy.

There is no way on Thor's earth that decoy would have exposed his hands and face to my dog's mouthpiece like that and not get his face shredded and hands mauled.

Still, nice dog.

Do you train this dog yrself from pup?

This is actually a decoy that worked with a lot of KNPV people... just saying. The dog likes to be up in the pocket. He pushes him up. A lot of dogs don't want to be up there because it's close to the face which puts pressure on the dog. The dog also has a lot of natural aggression and some serious fight and a strong grip and you can see how he is driving into the grip. That was his second session of at least 15 minutes of bitework like this. First session was with a lot of pressure from objects. This is a bit different than being on the sleeve. It is very different work and takes a lot of stamina and commitment.

As for biting the face or hands, i'm glad he's not that type of dog. In my book that's not a clear headed dog. I bred the dog and I trained the dog. http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=2132656-athos-von-den-sturmfalken

Gotcha, aggression in my book is to do damage, if you ain't fighting dirty you ain't winning.

Good for you training a dog while having limited mobility. That is inspirational.

I seriously don't get why people feel that shredding faces and mauling hands is appropriate aggression. I seriously don't get it. I don't want that type of dog. That type of dog is a frickin liability!

Also, ever heard of TARGETING? That's actually what he's learning right now.

by vk4gsd on 09 April 2017 - 05:04

Not winning a fight is a bigger liability, I don't get why people want an illusion of aggression but not aggression.

I guess it comes down to what you seen, what you know and what you do.

I can assure you who wins irl is not typically the best trained or tempered, its more about the ugly.

VK4GSD:

can you post an example? I would really like to see one. Doesn't have to be your dog, just post an example of what you think good aggression looks like.

There is no need for any defense in this training session. The objective was targeting. Not defense. Also, ever heard of transitioning?
I've had the pleasure to work with a few very high caliber people who supply Police dogs. None of these dogs are a liability or would go for a face and hands. Not a single one of them. As a matter of fact, most of these dogs learn how to target and have a level of possession that is unheard off. What you describe is not what I would want as a partner.

What you describe is a highly defense Ovcharka that comes off the sleeve to go after your face, or a Cane Corse that we've had at our shop recently. Extremely dangerous and unpredictable dog. Not what I want. Not what I need.

Each to his/her own needs and wants.

BTW, I never mentioned defence, I am sick of that whole debate, I don't post other people's vids anymore.
