It's easy to armchair quarterback but I give credit to those who put up examples of their own work.

To back up my post, here's a vid of my dog. First time at this club, after only about 6 times being worked by a helper. He was started on tug (by me as a pup) and then at around 18 months was tested for defence - hidden helper, bit of attraction, no equipment, see reaction of barking and end of leash advance. He is 3 yrs in vid but still not fully mature. Please excuse crappy and fumbling handling (arthritis) and weird outfit (sun reaction), lol. Dog was aware of helper's location while coming onto field. Warning - long vid, you may not want to view whole thing, but just get an idea.

Why do you people do this? The complete denial that the work shown is average and can be done by most decent dogs with a half way decent helper? Some of you are helpers/decoys and I know that you can make most dogs do what we've seen in these videos. I haven't armchaired anything, I'm just telling you what I see. Good dogs...but nothing that amazing that most decent GSDs can't do. I don't know what kinds of dogs you guys work with or see (most of you have probably worked with the small handful of dogs that you've personally owned and not really seen what a decent sampling of dogs are capable of) but most WL GSDs, with at least a few IPO titles or working certifications 2-3 generations back can perform work at this level.
Personally...I do believe a sport routine at a high level in any of the sports is exceptional work. No leash, no magic button, dog is under control, dog stays in the proper drive, dog explodes into a grip, fights the helper, but is called off when needed and does what is expected with just a verbal command.
Training videos are training videos. You're working to teach the dog, you're doing things to help the dog so that if that situation presents itself, the dog will know what to do. You've got tools in order to help the handler control the dog, and you've got tools in order to bring the dog back into drive if the conflict gets too much for the dog. The dogs I've seen...are good dogs, and with better training probably have the natural ability to show better and look more powerful or at least actually show the attributes their handler/owner/breeder is claiming they have. Are they high level sport dogs under the right handler? No. Could they have been K9s or working dogs? Bite wise...sure. Nerve wise environmentally, I can't make that judgment.
You guys ooooo and ahhhhh over these short 30 second clips, and yet rip a national/world level sport dog performance all day long. It makes so little sense. But it's understandable...your dog can do what you see in the 30 second clip...highly unlikely it can even do a simple bark and hold if asked.

Mybe it's just that I am a bit dense BW, but I am not sure what the purpose of your posts are, other than to talk down other people's dogs/training. Like I said before, if you put up an example of your dogs work and expound on how it is better, then maybe we can all learn something.

OP posted another video of the dog where it's heeling for bites...at least that shows some control and how the dog has the ability to work through the conflict and still respond to the threat. Still a young dog and learning...but that's a video that shows something a little more than just a helper agitating a dog and a dog biting.
Like I said...this forum is so backwards sometimes...they'll call this stuff exceptional and attack anyone that points out any negatives, yet they'll bash a podium dog all day long and claim it's not worth the kibble it's fed.

Still waiting for your vid.....

Actually, I am with BW on this.
The shit talking on IPO dogs and than he posts a NORMAL dog and the oooh and aaaah... that's why I asked if that was the "monster" he's talking about all the time because this is nothing special. It's a normal dog that you can find in most IPO clubs.
I am actually rather disappointed. I expected more after all that talk. And he's also right about control work. It ain't pretty and you will see issues and its a long and rocky road. Also, it does take a strong dog to go to world level. Weak dogs won't make it there. There is a lot more to IPO World level than what ya'll gripe about.

If I wanted feedback about my dog or the training, I'd post a video. I don't want/need it from the group here. OP posted a video, had it discussed. Other videos were posted, those were discussed as well. Weaknesses in the dog/training were pointed out, but I don't think anyone really said anything horrible about any of the dogs. I also don't actually have short clips like the ones posted of my dog,
If you actually wanted a video of my dog...you'd catch more flies with honey...being rude about my comments and trying to call me out for statements I didn't make isn't the way to get a video.
