No way did I do that, YR! I am literally talking about the rooster next door. That cock crows umpteem times once the sun breaks over the top of the trees. He's sort of at the bottom of a slope so it is not like it sounds up close. Just makes me miss GSDGuy08 or was it 07? It has been so long. He could not stand the rooster who woke him up every morning that lived in the trailer park behind his house. Just another one gone that fills me with fond memories of posting days of yore.
Someone needs to compare apples to oranges on this thread. IMHO

cougar vid, hope the cougar survived poor thing, that GSD was chicken shit.

That was not a mature cougar. It was not a threat and the GSD knew it.

Here is another argument :Are Organic foods better for you or are they really grown like the Label intends?
Two sides of the coin have different arguments...some say it is only a Ploy by some markets to charge higher prices

YR.....I dug out the Mincemeat Pie recipe and it reads 2lbs. lean beef. It doesn't specify what cut.
Also, this recipe is about 100 years old, because it was my grandfathers grandmothers recipe.
Some of the ingredients I've never heard of before....like Mace, Citron and Ground Beef Suet.
Here's a recipe that I found on Yahoo that looks very similar to my grandfathers.
Real mincemeat - actually made with meat! This recipe yields enough for 10 pies. Cut the recipe in half or smaller, if desired, or simply jar the extras and use as gifts. Makes 20 pints.
1 tsp. allspice
3 lbs. peeled, cored and sliced apples
2 lbs. chopped beef suet
1 quart brandy
2 quarts cider
1 tbsp. cinnamon
1/2 lb. chopped citron
3 lbs. dark brown sugar
3 lbs. dried currants
1 tbsp. ground cloves
hard sauce
4 lbs. chopped lean beef
1 tbsp. mace
2 cups molasses
1 tsp. nutmeg
pie crust dough for 9-inch, two-crust pie
4 lbs. seeded raisins
2 tsp. salt
whipped cream
Instructions
STEP 1: Place beef, suet, brown sugar, molasses, cider, currants, raisins and citron in a large pot. STEP 2: Stirring occasionally, cook slowly over medium heat until the sugar and citron melt. STEP 3: Add the apples and cook until tender. STEP 4: Add the brandy, cinnamon, mace, cloves, nutmeg, allspice and salt, and cook 15 minutes, stirring often. STEP 5: Spoon the mixture into clean, hot jars, leaving 1 inch of space between the top of the mincemeat and the edge of the jar. STEP 6: Close the jars and process in a pressure cooker at 10 pounds pressure for 20 minutes, or if you don't need to store the mincemeat indefinitely, forget the processing and simply store in the refrigerator until ready to use. STEP 7: Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. STEP 8: Line a 9-inch pie pan with pastry dough. (See "How to Make Pie Crust Dough.") STEP 9: Fill the lined pie pan with prepared mincemeat. STEP 10: Take the remaining dough and make a top crust. Crimp the edges and cut vents in the top to let steam escape. STEP 11: Bake the pie 10 minutes. STEP 12: Reduce heat to 350 degrees F and bake 40 minutes longer, until the top of the pie is browned. Serve with whipped cream or a hard sauce.

clc29, your posted recipe is a very very rich tasting pie. It's a great choice recipe for people who already have an aquired taste for mincemeat.
The "hard sauce" as mentioned in that recipe is Moonshine. A half shot of Moonshine over top a piece of pie then flambe. Makes a nice crispy top that tastes the best with vanilla ice cream.
I love mincemeat pies, but not like posted above. Just too rich for me (rum couldn't even tame that richness) - I can not finish a piece without drinking 1/4 gallon of milk with it.
I make venison mincemeat every year and jar it up to give out over the holidays. Venison meat is sweeter in the pie and more like tiny tiny meat crumbles compaired to lamb and beef - people who like meatless mincemeat pies never know there's even venison in the pie. I notice. LOL
Now I feel like making a mincemeat pie.

Who knew I had "hard sauce" sitting in my cupboard all this time! I have no idea why this was bought. LOL And notice, how the label says, "APPLE PIE". I think I will try that flambé thing, on the next pie!
