The way AKC registers dogs is the owner (or owners as in this case) of the dam is listed as the breeder. So Julie (Mittelwest) owned the dam's *with other people* but uses her kennel name on the dog.

AKC does not register kennel names exactly as Germany does-it is up to the kennel owner & from the AKC website the below are partial rules:
"The American Kennel Club offers breeders the Registered Kennel Name Program to protect the use of their kennel's name in the naming of AKC registered dogs. The use of a registered kennel name allows breeders to name dogs of their breeding in an identifiable manner creating a prominent familial foundation in the breed.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY.
ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS (see 1-3 below) MUST BE MET AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION FOR THE GRANTING OF A REGISTERED KENNEL NAME. APPLICATION INFORMATION WILL BE VERIFIED THROUGH REVIEW OF AKC RECORDS.
1.Be a breeder in good standing with the American Kennel Club with a record of breeding and registering purebred dogs in conformity with AKC registration rules and policies.

2.Have a documented background of involvement/participation in AKC events. You must complete Event Participation Worksheet listing dogs by AKC name and registration number.

3.Meet at least one of the following breeding requirements:
a.Bred at least 5 registered litters in the past 5 years;
b.Owned stud dogs that have produced at least 40 registered litters in the past 10 years.
c.A breeder, who has bred at least one AKC registered litter, may be granted a registered kennel name on a five-year provisional basis. The breeding requirements above must be met during the five-year period to be eligible to renew the registered kennel name."

If the name is not registered with AKC anyone can use it! I have seen dogs bred & born in the US where the people have used z PS, Antverpa (sp?), etc
No idea about the Germans listed as American, but someone could have filed a form out with the incorrect information

Cutaway, how convenient the live stream did not work for the Sieger Show. Wondering eyes would like to see who did best in the bite work and what happened in the movement in the ring and off leash that would drive the judge to make the placements he did. I would hope that anyone that had a flip or phone video would save it. This was a very disappointing show and maybe leads to those that might wonder what might have gone on to determine the placements. Clearly Schumann is a beautiful dog and moved much better than any others. He clearly had progeny at the show. Some of the other males had none.But there were 50 plus progeny groups in Germany. Why bother if these judges don't take that into consideration in the US? One of the VA dogs was there numerous times without ever showing a progeny. Why continue to promote this dog if he producing nothing for the future?
I just think it is very unfair for anyone to enter if the entry is already fixed.

I do believe that even if your puppy is registered with AKC but there is a transfer of ownership, the owner will be contacted and allowed to change the name for a mere fee.

No, I did not show at the sieger or the GSDCA national this year. I stayed home and did some winning in Maryland.

So Xeph, I am not familiar with what is required in your arena so do you have to do x-rays on hips and elbows? Do you have any prerequisites for you dogs to prove breed worthy ?

I think we both know there are no requirements, either by the AKC or by the GSDCA, for what health testing or titling must be done before breeding.

Everybody has their own standards and ethics, but I don't know what your question has to do with the thread.  Unless you just want to goad.

The AKC requires that both the sire and the dam need to be AKC registered in order to produce a registered litter. The GSDCA has additional requirements for members' dogs to be eligible for various club awards.
